I am going to Finland for a week in September, and noticed that there are many users from there on Facepunch. So, I'd like to know - which places to visit? Where to stay, what should I avoid, stuff like that.
Places to avoid: Eastern-Helsinki, Kouvola, Kallio (Helsinki) and Eastern-Pasila.
Lapland :|
Absolutely nothing.
The country side is nice.
Do visit the Heureka science centre.
Spaghetti dinner at gamestop
Woah, you're from coast of Black Sea. You're going to Helsinki area?
First thought I had is WRC, but it's too late.
[QUOTE=oskutin;41737161]Woah, you're from coast of Black Sea. You're going to Helsinki area?[/QUOTE] Not from coast per se, but pretty close. Yeah, I'd like to visit Helsinki, but would gladly hear out abput other possible destinations.

Places to avoid: Helsinki
I see weather on drugs. Cause sometimes weather can be extremely fantastic, but then suddenly BOOM RAINING EVERYWHERE. But this place is pretty calm and shiet.
BRAH IF YOU'RE VISITING HELSINKI HIT ME UP I'LL GIV YA A TOUR [sp]jk i really don't know the city well enough[/sp] Still if you're hanging around Central Helsinki, I'd be happy to come say hi.
Well, uh, there are lots of trees. Oh! And lakes! Yeah, lakes! Also, Lapland's kinda lame this time of the year. But if you're into short trees and hills I guess it's your place to be.
if you are going to Helsinki despite the warnings, see the essential historical landmarks (the Cathedral, the presidential palace, the parliament house, the central railway station, Finlandia Hall, maybe the olympic stadium etc etc etc). that's all i can give you [editline]7th August 2013[/editline] have you planned where exactly you're be going
Lots of boring flat woodland. That's the only thing you'll see. Further south you get some nice open plains and shit. But most of it is boring flat woodland with cities like 300km apart. And people, oh god the people are quite Finnish. Avoid getting stabbed. Actually no, avoid the place in general, if you try speaking english to them, you'll get unrecognizable garbled mess that is the finnish accent from most of the people. [editline]7th August 2013[/editline] It's been fun living in mid-east Finland with the border like 80km east of me. It's a really cool "town". No clubs, no music stores, no sex shops, no pet stores, nothing. Only 1 market too, the other one quit. [editline]7th August 2013[/editline] Oh, yeah, forgot. Water.
Visiting Finland is like visiting your grandmother's farm, except if the farm was the size of a country and your grandmother was an alcoholic. Check out the nature, and check out the local pubs of whatever city you're staying at, there's not much else to do here. Finland is one of the most bland countries I can think of.

Man she is filled with shit, culture is pretty much nonexistent except for drunken idiots who get themselves drowned and the nature is just boring as hell too. The lack of services and people in small shitty towns like mine is what makes people kill themselves and people like her just say "CULTURE AND NATURE :):):) best thing EVER!" Kinda annoying. If you're gonna live in Finland, stay the hell away from the north or the east, stick to Oulu, Tampere or Helsinki or any cities near those. For now I'll have to just live in this place where pretty much everybody is older than 65 and there's nothing to do at all. That's why I spend so much time in front of the computer.
It's the land of blandness. In the cities. Outside the cities, well, don't go outside the cities.
all kinds of exciting things like
[QUOTE=Funley;41735128]Do visit the Heureka science centre.[/QUOTE]This. It's a great place to go, and is fairly easy to get to. It's not mind-blowing, but it's a way to spend some time other than our national tradition of getting shitfaced. [QUOTE=CaptainHijacks;41746725]It's the land of blandness. In the cities. You could go to a restaurant chinese and indian food is p good. Or watch some movies in the cinema, i've heard that pacific rim is ok. Some of our sodas and micro foods are decent. God damn i hope you brought some good books and or laptop with you.
Try out one of their saunas. Finland also has a lot of pizza places. And yet, I've never been to Finland. I've only read things up on Wikipedia.
I just love how it's a whole thread of Finns saying "Don't come here, it's awful!" :v: [editline]7th August 2013[/editline] Almost like we're actually a really awesome country and we don't want anyone to find out.
Stuff you people say is kinda dissaponting, but I'm sure its not as bad as you are making it out.
You could check out Koli I guess...? [url]http://www.koli.fi/In-English/Frontpage[/url]
I'd suggest just chilling and traveling around the southern Helsinki, basically works for a city-trip very nicely. Not that much else to see really besides from the countryside and some of the biggest lakes we have, and then there's just a lot of forest. But the city is nice, and it's not a big city so you can practically see all of this place in a week if you are breezy like that.
btw it's good that you're coming while it's still summer, Finland tends to have 9 months of getting shit thrown in your face in various forms and 3 months of infernal heat
Depends what you are looking for, cities are quite boring but the nature can be beautiful. Finland is not terrible but we have pretty much nothing super interesting around here.
