Its almost like you are saying the developers should not put effort into making a good april fools joke to amuse their fanbases.
The karting, Google pokemon maps, 2D Blizzard adventure and the GW2 bobbleheads are all genius ideas in my books that certainly makes me love a dev more because they spent actual precious time to code these wonderful things.
And these programmers are not making this against their will or anything, i'd say this is like a field-day for programmers to do some silly things.
