• PC gamer getting a PS3: cable nightmare; what to use for audio?
    19 replies, posted
I'm planning on buying a PS3, but I have no TV, only my PC monitor (Samsung P2370). I figure that I need a HDMI cable + a HDMI->DVI converter, which should work according to various sources. Next problem is audio, which I haven't got a solution for yet. I'd prefer to use my PC headset (with normal green/red 3.5mm jacks) but apparently nobody on the PS3 development team ever thought of supporting those. The PS3 has 3 different ways of audio output. Since the HDMI one is already occupied, I'd like to know what the fastest route from either Digital Out or the AV MULTI OUT is to a 3.5mm audio jack (I know the microphone is a lost cause without buying a Bluetooth headset). If you guys have other solutions (that doesn't involve buying other expensive hardware), please let me know.
I think this might work. Can anyone confirm? Because if it's not, even though you buy a HDMI to DVI adaptor, it will not display an image.
Just so you know, unless your monitor's native resolution is 1280x720, the games will look like ass trying to stretch.

For HDMI to DVI you just need a cable with HDMI on one end and DVI on the other, doesn't need to be converted
Just so you know, unless your monitor's native resolution is 1280x720, the games will look like ass trying to stretch.
I have a Samsung P2370 (DVI-D, 1080p), as stated in the OP. The Logitech Game Adapter seems to be a good way to get sound to a 3.5mm audio jack. I'll have to order it on Amazon though, doesn't seem to be available anywhere in the Netherlands. Also, can someone confirm that it should work?

Barely any PS3 games are 1080p though. So most games will look like ass unless the monitor does 720. The PS3 does NOT have a built in scaler like the 360.
Buy a thing like this [IMG_thumb]http://www.b2btrade.biz/images2/img484f18a36dcb1.jpg[/IMG_thumb] then a pack of these [IMG_thumb]http://www.limelight.nu/accucables/images/rca-rca-adapter.jpg[/IMG_thumb] And you are done. Thats what i did.

The first one is something like 3.5mm Stereo Splitter Audio Adapter: http://www.amazon.com/3-5Mm-Stereo-Splitter-Audio-Adapter/dp/B0009JFF7A/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_c And the second one is RCA female to female adapter. Oh and this one should work too http://www.amazon.com/RCA-Female-3-5mm-Mono-Adapter/dp/B000I98ZM8/ref=pd_cp_e_1

I think so. [editline]06:35PM[/editline] Btw i had this same nightmare once.. It was horrible. thank god everything is working now..
I'll ask at a local electronics store, who knows they might actually have competent people. Only problem I see with this one you suggested juGGa, is that it states it only outputs mono.
You seem to have this now, but it is of note I use my Turtle Beach headphones for my Xbox, computer, and PS3. My monitor is my TV which I use with an HDMI cable for the PS3 and the PC. The headset came with a set of converters, as the native plugs are the classic pink/green. It works by plugging it in one end and then attaching the component red/white cables to the back of the adapters (If O is female and - is male, it's like -0-TV). You use both the HDMI cable for the PS3 and the component stuff for audio. Basically the same system as that other set, similar in nature and use and whatnot. SO yeah.

Buy some Bluetooth Headphones. They all have a mic on them, so you're set for gaming.
Like others say, get an RCA to 3.5mm adapter
Like others say, get an RCA to 3.5mm adapter
Even with that, you need an amp or it will sound like staticy shit.
expertreviews.co.uk/monitors/268687/samsung-syncmaster-p2370/specifications Your monitor doesn't support hdcp, so using a hdmi - dvi won't work. You can get a cable that simulates it, but you're looking at like £60+ check Wiki if you don't know what hdcp is. EDIT: Bloody phone autocorrect :/
