Notch giving up after making something half way decent and then it getting resurrected by the community? I'm having some weird deja vu.
Then watch as the community make a far better game than Notch could have ever made.
I'm disappointed that Notch won't be making any "big" games anymore. He obviously has really good ideas. Both Minecraft and 0x10c are very unique, awesome concepts. (yes, I realize that both have been inspired by other games, but they were too different to consider them rip offs)
I really did like the 16 bit computer concept. Hopefully the community team can keep it together and bring this through to completion.

Minecraft is practically a clone of infiniminer and something else iirc. But I agree with 0x10c.
Back to the matter at hand:
I think he was being too ambitious really, 0x10c, while a cool concept (dumb name though) would have been monumentally difficult to make, even for someone who is an expert in java, and the effort required would have been way too much for Notch to handle, given the amount of breaks he took while making Minecraft of all things, let alone this.

It really isn't past the base mining mechanics.

Definitely. I think that Notch really is at his best for smaller key stuff when he's working on things personally. I mean, look at some of his Game Jam stuff. But for more momentous projects his shortcomings become rapidly obvious.
I think Notch really needs to set himself up with a team and work on things more conventionally, rather than taking an all-or-nothing approach to developing things on his own.
