I need a £400 computer for daily use and some more.

Hello Facepunch, I need a setup with a £400 budget used for Uni work and some light gaming.
With light gaming I mean things like The Sims 3 and some other not-too-intensive stuff.
As you may have noticed, I'm in the UK.
I'd like the parts to come from http://www.scan.co.uk/ but if you find a website which is cheaper and still good, then by all means use that.
The budget is £400, but it can be pushed to a max of 500, though not preferred.
I don't care about brands, there are no preferences of Intel over AMD or anything of the sort.
Thanks in advance.
Oh I forgot to note, it's just the hardware, software is being taken care of.
It's just the tower. Mouse, keyboard and the likes are also done.
Best you can do for around £400

GPU is a bit overkill for the sims 3, but it'll last for a long time
Cheers for the build, it looks alright.
Although the RAM seems kind of overkill, but Corsair is a pretty pro brand.

How is 4GB "overkill" ?
The dominator is the cheapest DDR3 1333MHz RAM you can buy from scan IIRC

It's not so much the size I was referencing to, more like the brand, as far as I know Dominator stuff by Corsair isn't the cheapest, but it's great quality.
Damn it Finley, DDR3 RAM and DDR2 board? I'll try a build later, but your build is ok. Could be a bit better.
Ah shit, I confused it with the model above it. Get this instead:

Otherwise I fail to see what's wrong with it unless he wants to spend a little more on a beefier PSU like this:

That's a nice build. For light gaming though I think going with an ATI 5670 512mb and 2gb of ram(assuming he has a 32bit OS) would save money and achieve the same thing(not knowing monitor resolution).
I was just using the budget, he may as well make it as future proof as possible
I've never used a budget. I just order what I want and ask for the price of it. So if I can't afford it, I gather more money and then buy it. . haha.

Heck no

You buy more compared to HD 4000 Series, just for the Eyefinity thing.

Finley's build is the best build
The 5xxx series has the ability to output video and audio via HDMI. That makes it more versatile than the 4xxx series. Otherwise, yeah, he could just get a 4670 and save money.
Future proofing for a light gamer? Well, okay but I'm assuming a 'light' gamer who decides to start playing demanding games at a high resolution and high framerate is going to want a 'real' gaming system. A 450 sort of is on the line, fast enough to be a budget gaming card but not nearly fast enough for high detail/high resolution DX11 games.

I built this in August. Some of the prices should be a little cheaper now.
Runs most things great maxed, TF2, L4D2, etc.
I always feel like I've been ripped off when I see something cheaper than what I paid for it ages ago.
