[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/CaolZ.jpg[/img_thumb] I guess this pretty much sums up my problem - I added a second display (and I love it) but now my 5770 hits 70+ in every game from cs to sc2. I like the second monitor enough that I plan on replacing it with another 1920x1080 (current is 1600x900) so I definitely need to get this under control. Prior to the second display it would never go past ~55 and now 68-75 is the norm with 54 idle. The EK waterblock doesn't fit the xfx 5770s so that's out of the question and capping my fps @ 120 didn't help at all - same temps whether I'm at 120 or 250-400. Would getting a second 5770 relieve the first one of some stress and bring me back down? Are there other coolers I can install? My 5770 is the reference cooler design, not the egg shaped one so that only adds to my problem.

At what point should I become concerned? After a few minutes it apparently stays at 75-76
If it gets to 90, worry. Though 90 isn't REALLY bad. 70 is just fine though, if you're worried get more fans, etc... Increase the fan speed on GPU aswell maybe?

Jeez 90C isn't bad?? I have my whole perception of temperatures wrong....
I get worried at 60 :ohdear:
I get worried at 60 :ohdear:
I get worried at 40. But that's me. Oh wait, that's my normal idle.
I get worried at 60 :ohdear:
Pretty much how I feel - I've always felt that 60 is the ideal max so when I saw it had hit 77 I was naturally panicked. I'll add a 120mm fan just to be sure when I'm running 2x 1920x1080. Thanks for the help!
Jeez 90C isn't bad?? I have my whole perception of temperatures wrong....
90 is something to be concerned about, but don't have to try and fix the problem right away. By the way my GTS 250 never goes above 64 Celsius :smug:
It depends on the card, you cannot really generalize the threshold. My GTX 480 can easily hit 90 on a summer day.
Honesty as long as it's not boiling, the card most likely won't be damaged. NVIDIA cards tend to get warmed, my GTX280 can hit 90C on warm days. I have no idea on ATIs but I think that you're fine <90. For me and my card 95C has been the general treshold.
ya back in the days the 4870x2 normally did over 100
My 4650 is on 50C idle and maximum that I have got is 86C when in Crysis editor blowing up shitloads of stuff. Fan speed was 80% I think. I can't understand why everybody got so hot 4xxx series? Mine is pretty cool I would say. Room temp is about 25C I think. And my PC is very close to a radiator, what is pretty hot on winter.

4870 idle temperature all day, erry day 70-80c on the 57xx series is nothing to be concerned about OP, might be an idea to have something like ATI Tray Tools running in overlay mode to monitor temperature.

Suck it.
My old 4870 used to idle at 87. Suck it.
Ah, you had one of the legacy 'bacon maker' models. Lucky bastard, I missed out and ended up with a 'small furnace' version.
Jeez 90C isn't bad?? I have my whole perception of temperatures wrong....
In GPUs, with CPUs it's different.
I know it's a bit different, still thought 90C would be cause for some worry. 70C I know is fine.
