So I'm going to Senegal for an internship of a month, and I want some kind of camera to capture, well, stuff. Ideally I'd use my phone's, but it sucks ass. I read about the MinoHD and decided to check it out.

It has 8gb of flash memory, supposedly good for up to 2 hours of 720p/60fps footage. It's also pretty small and portable, weighting around 100g, a big plus. I've read a lot of reviews, and all of them are positive, but I wanted to get a second opinion from FP.
What do you think of it? Any alternatives?
Thanks.
It is made by Cisco, it MUST be good
I'm no expert on video camera's so I can't give you a suggestion.
But you might want to aim a little higher than that. Flip cameras are pretty basic and are mainly intended for no brainer point and shoot video recording, and use awful digital zoom. If you need zoom, your going to need a camera with REAL optics.
I've used one before and to be honest, they aren't as good as I expected.
Flip cameras are simply not HD.
It's blatantly false.
My phones video recording is better than a lot of Flips, get something with a better lens and can also do at least 1080p.

It seems to claim that it records 720p. Is this not the case?

It can, but it doesn't mean its GOOD 720p. Its probably no better than 720p from many higher end smartphones. And for a dedicated video recording device, that's pretty bad.

If you're getting that $230 8GB HD, do not do it. I got one for my sister and it's perfect for her but I only got it for her because I found it online for $70 new.
It's definitely not worth $230 new and it's not "bad" but it's WAAAAAY overpriced. It's a very good beginner camera but not worth the money.

Will do the job for about $40 less. 4X Optical Zoom, has a manual and automatic mode. It's pretty basic but the video/microphone quality is great (It's REAL HD) and it has as much memory as you want to buy. That extra $40 can get you a 4GB 30MB/s SD Card that you can re-use, hell, maybe even an 8GB one if you can find a deal.

Cute little video shot using the SD1400 I managed to find. Should give you an idea of the quality.
I have the Flip HD which records at 720p. It's ok and reliable for the price. Wouldn't buy it (I got it as a gift) or get it again, but it will do fine just don't expect it to be amazing.
It sucks.

For the price, anyway

I highly suggest this camera. Snapsort rates it high (It's on their homepage) and a friend picked one up over the holidays, who seems to be enjoying it. It's compact, has a ton of nifty features and the picture quality is pretty damn good for its size.

Way cheaper than the Flip, can take 5mp stills, 720/60 and 1080/30.
It can also go underwater, has EIS, you can use SD cards and take out the battery

His audience is around 18-19 year olds mostly from his microwave series. Jon's pretty conservative with his sexual jokes. I think he was doing it for viewers.
Doesn't negate the fact that he's spent thousands of dollars of equipment for his show and his job. He's one of the most successful youtube content producers.
All of Jon's points were true in relation to the flip.
