• Computer randomly makes a shutdown sound

Ever since I installed Windows 7, my computer tends to make a weird powering off like noise during gaming every now and then. It's a click, and then it sounds as if the fans power down for a split second. It doesn't exit my game, it doesn't cause framedrop or stuttering and my comp doesn't turn off or reboot. Can anyone tell me what this is?

From my end it appears that the power supply is at fault, but, as always, this is not a certainty. A dodgy power supply is capable of causing harm to the rest of the system. Here are are several ways to find out whether or not the power supply is the culprit: Replace PSU with a spare/borrow one from another PC (makes sure it has adequate power). Has the problem vanished? Replace the PSU. Buy a PSU tester. Failed the test? Replace the PSU. Get a digital multimeter and manually test the voltages of the PSU (google how to). Voltages fall outside of ATX spec? Replace the PSU.
