so awesome that we can (some what) easily upgrade the storage on the PS4
I was gonna ask how that was in any way difficult but then they showed the bit where you need to flash it with a USB stick, really backwards how it requires that.
It's not all that difficult, I'll be downloading that same update tonight so I can have it on a flashdrive ready to go before their servers get slammed on Friday.

For a lot of people, formatting a flash drive and moving a file is too much to ask, way more than sliding a cover off and removing a single screw.
Speaking about that, that is a neat screw, with the button icons and everything. The entire console oozes quality.

Anyone replacing a hard drive on their PS4 should know how to copy a file to a usb drive.

My slim PS3 does that :/
I wonder if doing this will void any warranties.

Don't see why it would, worst thing that could happen is the SSD dies and you have to put the HDD back in
Interesting. I remember that people putting SSDs in their PS3s reporting that it barely made any difference at all because of how the console decrypts everything at runtime which slowed things down significantly regardless of how fast your HDD was.

So I guess it is better to only be able to buy overpriced first party harddrives instead? :v:
A 250gb HDD on a 360 slim costs $75. I paid $52 for a 500gb HDD for my PS3. (Things are expensive in Sweden no doubt..)

Usually, opening up products beyond normal use will void warranties.

Since they made the hard drive so easy to replace it almost seems like upgrading it was intended to be a part of "normal use". Even if replacing does void your warranty, you could still just pop the old drive back in and probably no one will be able to tell.
