So many puns... [editline]5th June 2013[/editline] Well, I guess they'll have a leg up on their competitors with all this extra cash.
This seems like a more practical way to exercise while playing a video game.
Wow, this can actually give fitness games some use!
you still can't prone though :v:
You can if you use a kinect camera. All you need to do is map prone to a certain movement.
Great idea, probably costs a shitload, though. You could probably shave off a few bucks by making stickable mats to the bottom of the shoes you're already wearing, instead of having to buy lolgameshoez.

The huge cost of PC gaming rises further.
Great idea, probably costs a shitload, though.
Is a few hundred "a shitload" now? It's going to be fairly affordable, even if you get a Rift with it.
I can see all those wires get tangled around the user if he spins too much in one direction.
I'd buy it if I had enough disposable income to cover the costs and space in my bedroom.

I think it's cool, but the biggest problem as of now is the fact it's so god damn loud. You could have headphones on with the game volume to highest and you could still hear yourself sliding all over the place.
The huge cost of PC gaming rises further.
Because you totally need this to play PC games. ya
Suddenly the biggest gamers are the most fit!
I'd buy one if the price is right.
The huge cost of PC gaming rises further.
Consider this for a moment, what price would you put on a completely immersive VR experience in your favorite games? I know a lot of people who would price it in the millions. What we're looking at, combined with the Oculus rift and a decent Gaming PC, the entire package would be less than 2 grand. You just have to be smart enough to build on budget. Besides, a virtual treadmill and vr headset aren't really considered mandatory gaming peripherals.
In the future people will recognize gamers as people with a large amount of lower body strength because of this.
It's looking closer to under 1 grand with this setup, the treadmill is looking around $300
Just throwing in a quick point, from the Kickstarter project's FAQ: The prices stated ($300 for DIY, $430 for manufactured) are exclusive to the Kickstarter at a "significant" discount, simply to get them into the hands of VR enthusiasts and developers. The commercial prices will be higher.
I hope the shoes come in super wide :v:
No way I'm going to step into that thing to play a simple video game.
No way I'm going to step into that thing to play a simple video game.
this is for immersive VR not super mario bros.
Had no idea about this, I just saw it briefly on a YouTube video. Didin't think it would be turned into a full-on commercial idea. I love it, though, and the price of this + the Oculus is pretty damn affordable considering what you get. Guys - welcome to the future!
Everything I can find about this thing suggests it uses a Kinect sensor to map movements, there's no electronics in the Omni itself. If this is the case I foresee that much cheaper solutions will come along soon as essentially all it is is a slippery bowl.
