I moved about 100 gigs of files to a external and, reinstalled windows 7 on this computer. Now i want to move my files back, but i it doesn't show up in Computer Folder next to C:\. It was there before i reinstalled, but now i get nothing. This is what i get: [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/diskfailPC.png[/t] As you can see its disk 1. Now when i plug it into my laptop [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/diskfaillaptop.png[/t] It works fine on my laptop I cant change or assign letter to because i get this: [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/eror1.png[/t] I have restarted, and have gone into disk edit Command prompt ( forgot the actual name) and tried to assign it letters, and was able to assign to E. I have also tried a different hard drive, and i get the same problem. All from USB, i have unistalled USB mass storage drivers and let it reinstall the drivers, but nothing works. I have a small 8 gig Flash drive, that works fine and can move my files back and forth, but nothing with the external drives. It could be that my drivers are outdated but ive tried to find updates but couldn't. Here is my Speccy if needed [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/speccy14.png[/t]
just to clarify what you did via command line the following works for me:
diskpart list volume select volume # assign
not specifying the letter will auto-assign the next available drive letter of course is that what you did? if not try it of course also, in services.msc, is the Plug and Play service running?
Thats exactly what i did. I assigned it to letter E. Plug n Play is running because i see it say its installing the drivers. Also now when ever i plug in the 1TB drive with all my files it now says unknown Device. I've unistalled and reinstalled but still says unknown device. Doesn't do that with my other 500 gb external. But i still can't access or change both. :suicide:
