16. Let's leave 1920x1080 behind for good and make 4K the standard PC gaming resolution. That'll show those Xboxers who's in charge.
Yeah, jumping from 1920x1080 to 7680x4320? Better upgrade to a few more Titans, buddy.
Besides, what's wrong with 1080p? It's perfectly crisp to me.
Uh, what has updating Java / Flash / Adobe Reader to do with anything regarding PC gaming?
Also, if i remember correctly there was a good reason why some games install .NET and DirectX.
This list doesn't make a lot of sense..
20. Alt-Tab must switch us out to whatever else we've got going on with no graphical bizarreness. We're not programmers, but this seems like it should be easy to do.
Alt-tabbing is a quite a heavy job for your PC to perform if i am correct, thats not something someone can just 'program' to solve it.
Some of these things make the guy sound like a whiny 10 year old. I've never had a game install/update flash or Java, except for games that use Flash or Java which makes perfectly good sense.
Updating DirectX is necessary if the game uses features that aren't included in the current installed version of DirectX.
Number 10 is kinda odd, I've only had really bad ports or very old games not allow you to go to the native resolution, but it shouldn't be forced because it's one of the graphical options that can give you a big boost in fps if lowered.
11 is just plain stupid.
14 isn't anything to do with games, but it is however very important to keep Windows updated, there's a reason it forces you to restart.
For 15, I think most games auto detect graphics, and if you have a Nvidia card you can use Geforce Experience for that too.
16. Games can be ran in 4K if you want to (and have the hardware) but mainly this sounds like he's just trying to shit on console gamers.
18. I only have Steam, on the occasion that I have an origin only game, I will start Origin, I don't keep it always open though. My system tray is very clean.
21. Mouse acceleration is very useful outside of games, believe it or not a lot of people use computers for other things than games
24. Is this guy still stuck in the year 2000? Just open a media player then open your game
what a dumb pointless article.
I came in expecting a dumb article because PCGamesN, why did I go in knowing what would happen?
a bunch of those things kinda point at the guy having zero technical knowledge on why some of these things happen.
39. Any sort of timed exclusive.
But this is more a console problem than a PC problem
28. Audio diaries.
29. Regular diaries.
What the hell?
What does this have to do with PC gaming? And what if I want to know more about the characters or game world?
12. Double clicking, come on, what's up with that? Less double clicking if you don't mind.
Laziest person 2014
[editline].[/editline]
Some of these are hilariously nitpicky or stupid, is this even serious?
There's so much wrong with this list, that it's crystal clear that this person's main gaming platform isn't PC.

I guess instead of optional exposition he wants forced exposition and incredibly long cutscenes like half-life 2
yeah fuck pc gaming, i had to install directx so i bought an xbox because it was just easier

The couple of things game journalism must stop doing right now
1· Sensationalist titles for clickgrabs
2· bullet points articles for maximum clickgrabs
3· spread out such bulletpoints in more than one page to make readers pleasantly bask in more ads
4· post stuff that show little knowledge of your field of work

I'm pretty sure that he's referring to the common meaning of 4K, which is 4x the amount of pixels on 1080p. In the case of 2K and 4K you're normally referring to the width (for some reason).
yeah fuck pc gaming, i had to install directx so i bought an xbox because it was just easier
Almost every single video that isn't Minecraft the Achievement Hunters do, there's always UPDATE DO IT OR DON'T PLAY. If not for the fact that Microsoft put me off of the Xbox on their own, this certainly would. A single install of a particular version of DirectX that the game used on the initial install is part of the install, as far as I'm concerned. I've never not once had to update a game's DirectX version, ever, from Dx1 to now, once installed. Though back in the day you installed it once and that was pretty much it, I don't recall games using specific versions like they do now

Or computers.
What is this dudes beef with DirectX and redistributables? They are there for a very good reason, to make your game function.

Well on the other hand, it is kinda annoying how it sometimes installs the very same DirectX version over and over again for every game and it also takes up unneeded HDD space (which can be removed by a tool though)
Still, it's certainly not a thing someone should worry about nor 'think' about.

Its just not the same when you do that though
There are usually a lot of effects and fading that make the music more dynamic and natural to the situation
4. Using My Documents as a filthy dumping ground for your mucky save games
alright we'll just put them in the main game folder that's in programs or steam/commons which a person like this probably doesn't even know exist, have fun backing them up
Whoever this writer is he should be banned from PCGN.
I remember back when it was just added to FP feed and they had informative articles. Now there's so much junk and poor writing.
alright we'll just put them in the main game folder that's in programs or steam/commons which a person like this probably doesn't even know exist, have fun backing them up
If someone is in to playing as complicated as a game that you would want to back up a save for (skyrim, Civ, The Sims, so on) they probably won't have too much trouble figuring out where an install directory is.
alright we'll just put them in the main game folder that's in programs or steam/commons which a person like this probably doesn't even know exist, have fun backing them up
The reason many games do it in My Documents is because of permissions. If you have multiple accounts on your windows, it is possible some of them do not have write permission to game folder. My Documents is guaranteed to be writable.
What the hell?

To be fair text dumps and audio logs are pretty much the absolute worst ways to deliver story and lore in a video game.
But then again it's not like they're exclusive to PC games so I don't really get why it's in this article. For that matter half of the things on this list either have nothing to do with games or nothing to do with PC.
This doesn't bother me since most of the 50 things are jokes, but PCGN needs to culture their own identity rather than try to be RPS. RPS is annoying as fuck.

What was wrong with 640x480 in the days of Quake... just because 1920x1200 is "alright" and "crisp" doesn't mean it's perfect.
If someone is in to playing as complicated as a game that you would want to back up a save for (skyrim, Civ, The Sims, so on) they probably won't have too much trouble figuring out where an install directory is.
Neither skyrim nor sims are complicated by any standards. Sims is advertised for kids for fucks sake. Skyrim too for the most part.

Or, you know: Documents/Saved Games.
Some games uses this already but it's not used nearly enough.
