Haunted fedora? What the...?
Is it just me or is this game pretty much Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective?
Is it just me or is this game pretty much Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective?
That sounds pretty good though :v: I'm kidding, it's probably not going to be as good as Ghost Trick. Still I picked it up. It's a reasonably priced big-ish title for once.
Since there's no thread for this game I thought it had a pretty good story, but the ending felt unsatisfying. The way they decided to take the story answered some questions, but made other aspects not make any sense. The game play was minimal, but considering how the game was structured, it was fitting enough. The only gameplay aspect I didn't enjoy was how you have to fight the demons. The demon presence made sense (as ghosts become demons when they stay way too long, and to add to the suspenseful theme), but the fighting of them really broke up the pacing, and felt out of place. The story did surprise me from time to time, but I feel if they restructured how the ending was supposed to go, they could have built upon the story a lot more, and made it last longer. It isn't a very long game. I do like that it is an original idea compared to just being another shooter game now a days. Moving through the world is fun, and I still had the tendency to try to avoid objects and go through doorways. Also the artstyle is interesting with parts of the old Salem timeline clashing through into the ghostworld of the present, although I don't understand how that actually works within the game. Currently, I'd say it's not worth it's price. Maybe at $25.
I kinda wished they turned exorcising demons into its own full fledged optional minigame where it's basically like a puzzle where you find out the best way to exorcise all the demons in a room. I liked the challenge of taking on a room full of them when they're almost always watching each other. To be honest, looking at all the tools available to the player halfway through the game, it could have been a really cool puzzle game on top of what it is now. My favorite thing about the game is the animation the demons make when they move. For some reason I think it's looks amazing and fits them perfectly.
I think most of the animation budget went towards the Demons and the Player's model. The citizens have short animation loops. The citizens have like 4 faces with slight variations between them, which confused me when I first started. Just by being there the demons added a slightly suspenseful tone, which was ok, but it could have been done so much better. Like, what if he could 'poltergeist' objects from the past version of Salem to crush the demons or some shit. Like summoning in those glowing objects you can't pass through. Anything would be better than sitting until you figure out their pathing and when to sneak up behind one and exorcising it. Not to mention the moment 1 sees you, you're dead by virtue that you can't hide from them (unless you can escape vertically)
