lol, $10. Some servers are practically dead and it's been out for 8 months. These guys are more stingy than Activision.
My friends are bugging me about it all the time. Too bad it costs way too much for me.

GW2 servers are pretty small in terms of concurrent users online. Medium probably represents a few hundred. "Dead" is probably an exaggeration but they are certainly rather empty. A friend of mine on a Medium server says as much atleast. [editline]21st May 2013[/editline] SWTOR servers were shown with Very High populations after it launched with the hubs being completely abandoned, an arbitrary word used to describe server population doesn't convey how empty the world can be.
You all have very strange definitions of dead.
It's not as many subs as WoW Dead game

You'll almost never find too many people in a zone because of dungeons, WvW, meta-events, and now the living story. I personally do think that is a problem though and Arenanet agrees. Anet is using the living story to populate areas of the world that aren't regularly visited while also changing the world enough to excite old players revisiting the game. The game definitely has problems, but population is not one of them.

If the game didn't have guesting and server transfers built-in you would hear a lot more grief about it. And yes thanks for the advertising spiel I have 3 level 80's I know all about the living story meta events.
If you want to see all the who are people playing GW2 just go to WvW or GW2LFG.
The game feels dead because of Culling in PvE. You can walk 10 feet away from someone and they'll disappear, although they've mentioned that it will be removed. And, when a event pops, it seems like everyone just swarms in out of no where.

They rely on gem store sales and box sales to keep the game afloat. The gem store is currently lacking in stuff to actually buy so you so see where the problem lies. Until they can fill out the store they need to keep the price up in box sales. Maybe in a few months we'll see another price reduction.
Culling in PvE is probably my most hated part of GW2 I went to a Tumblr meetup a while ago because it sounded fun, there were hundreds of people there and I could only see the players in a five foot radius of myself
Yeah, I really hate it. I was doing the Claw of Jormag the other day, and every five feet I'd move, I'd have everyone disappear, and then about another 20 people load in.
Yeah its bad when you get downed in those world events since there's a high chance people around you literally won't see you on the ground.
SWTOR servers were shown with Very High populations after it launched with the hubs being completely abandoned, an arbitrary word used to describe server population doesn't convey how empty the world can be.
SWTOR had abandoned hubs because the game was laid out in such a way that you're barely gonna go into one of the boring unorganized capitals unless you really, really need to.
The main issue is that all the people are doing the same thing, so if you're just leveling, it might as well be dead. Except for the first and last couple levels of zones, you can go through all of them without seeing a soul on even the highest populated servers. When they were first marketing the game, it sounded like that was something they were trying to avoid. From what I've seen, they should call it "back to the drawing board" as far as pve is concerned.
