"The touchpad itself is 1920x900 resolution"
Holy shit. On every controller?
The controllers' light bars will also be illuminated to represent the player order: blue for player 1, red for player 2, green for player 3, and pink for player 4. This reflects the colors of the X, Circle, Triangle, and Square buttons, respectively. Those buttons will be digital this time around, as developers barely made use of the analog buttons. The touchpad itself is 1920x900 resolution, and clicks when pushed like a button press.
Whaaaaaat that's fucking awesome.
The new PlayStation Eye, meanwhile, will use its own proprietary connector instead of USB.
Sony needs to stop with this. All of their proprietary connectors and memory cards are why people think twice about buying Sony products. Why should I spend £60 on a Vita memory card when I can buy an SD card for a quarter of the price? Why do I need a different cable for all my devices when Micro-USB can do the same job? It's fucking ridiculous.

Yeah, their mobile devices are like that but that's hardly an issue specific to Sony consoles. The PS3 uses bluetooth, USB, and the same video connectors as the PS2. Is it that big of a deal that a camera designed for use with the system uses a proprietary connection?
what the fuck does "digital button" mean? as in, the X, Triangle, Square, and Circle buttons will no longer be pressure sensitive? finally, i fucking hated wearing out the X and Square buttons on my PS2 and PS3 controllers
because the cord is probably gonna be $20 to replace if you lose it, rather than just getting a piss cheap usb cable
I'd imagine it would be a cable that is not detachable from the camera, but if not it probably will be more expensive.
I don't know.....not sure if I like the X, square, circle, and triangle buttons being digital. Yeah, it was sadly under utilized for this gen, but why get rid of it? I hope the R/L triggers and analog sticks are still analog. Well, I guess the sticks have to be analog.
they're getting rid of analog buttons? but
i like feeling when i'm playing
[editline]27th March 2013[/editline]
well i guess it's not that bad, but still. I like buttons.

Perhaps they could integrate the digital buttons with that bumpy-technology-thingy we saw a few months ago?

that would be pretty cool
Is it that big of a deal that a camera designed for use with the system uses a proprietary connection?
No, but it's just another example of Sony going against the grain for no good reason.
Man I really liked analog buttons, it's a shame they were so underused they're taking them away. It was pretty immersive to have to lightly press on a button to go into aiming mode, then harder to shoot in MGS3. Also the first person view made great use of the analog shoulder buttons.
The shoulder buttons will probably still be analog.
Analog buttons 'underused'? What the fuck

okay rating this post disagree is great but nobody has actually explained to me what digital buttons are
okay rating this post disagree is great but nobody has actually explained to me what digital buttons are
Digital buttons only register 2 states, pressed/unpressed.
okay rating this post disagree is great but nobody has actually explained to me what digital buttons are
Analog basically allows you to do stuff based on how much the button is being pressed while digital only allows two states of being pressed or not.
Fucking ninja'd
ahhhhh okay i get it, the disagrees must've been to my PS2/PS3 controller part of the post then
I didn't even realize they had analogue buttons, I knew the triggers were but I thought that was it.
"The touchpad itself is 1920x900 resolution"

That sounds... Expensive.
Controllers are already $80 in Australia, this doesn't look like it'd help.
I'm pretty surprised the analog buttons are going away. The hardware for them isn't very complex.
But I guess I can't name any PS4 games that used them.
If there's anything I despise more, it's that quickly-becoming-overused font and squared theme. At least the XMB style looked a bit more interesting compared to this.
