Hi guys, just gonna make this short since im on a phone, ive required the funds to upgrade my ati 6970 to something with a lot more "umph" and ive been considering the gtx 780. But since im not especially tech savy i was hoping you could tell me if im horribly wrong and that i should get something else.
Thanks in advance.
I absolutely love my 780, if you want to save a little bit of money I have heard that the 770 and 760 are also really great.
An added bonus is the Geforce Experience, it lets you know when there are driver updates, beta/official, and can let you change compatible game's video options to ones tested for the card

Yeah, ive heard that, but I cant figure out what i would be losing if i went with one of those compared to the 780

with a 770 instead of a 780 all you'd really be losing is 10-15% performance max and that's only in some games. it's a way better deal if it's still something like $200 cheaper, plus with a little overclocking yourself or paying extra for a factory overclock, you can get pretty similar performance from the 770.
Damn, seems the 770 isint for sale in Denmark so It's either the 760 or the 780
I would personally go with the 780, that's just me though

I have the Asus 780 and it's amazing.
I would recommend it anyday.
Get the reference version.

Odd - I thought Nvidia wasn't allowing OEM partners to churn out this generation's reference designs with no end.
I have many reasons not to get the 780. The 6970 still has enough power and the 780 won't feel like much for the money if you get it. I was running BF3 at medium settings at 1080p on my little Radeon HD 5770 1GB card for the longest time, then I upgraded to the GTX 670 4GB card and I'll have it for a while! If you want something that will be worth the money when the time comes, wait for the next series, the 800 series (or whatever they name it, I hear there are going to be name changes for both AMD and nVidia for next gen cards). It will have a completely new GPU architecture, and also have more efficient interfaces for Pcie 3. Not to mention I think they might be going down in fabrication size or something, which will allow for more performance and less heat, and less power needed. And the "880" (what we will call it for now) will most likely go for what the 780 goes for today when it comes out. But, it will have a major performance upgrade over the 780 due to the new architecture and better drivers!
That means it sure as hell will be better than that still decent 6970 you have.

Just because you were able to get away with a certain level and graphics quality, doesn't mean everyone will. The 780 is a huge increase, hell, a 780 would probably be better than cf 6970. You can play the waiting game with computer products till you die. Yes the 880 will be the same price as the 780 now, but so will every card flagship nvidia releases.
If you have the cash to upgrade, and you need the performance, get the 780, I am glad i bought mine.
Just saying, the next series will be a tick in the GPU cycle worth waiting a year for, that 6970 is still in it's glory days and that $650-$725 you spend won't be enough. You're not even off the AMD regular driver update list yet. You're still getting the 7000 series drivers. I'm not saying wait because there will be better hardware. I am saying wait until the price justifies an upgrade. Back a few gens ago when the top single gpu cards were anywhere from $300-$500 I would say, yea go upgrade. But these cards are asking to shell out around $700 for the best single GPU card which is just just a 680 with more cores and a lower clock speed.
The main reason to wait is because your card will be good a year from now still going high-max on many games! And, the performance gap that will be created between the 780 and the 880 will be 2 to 3 times larger than the gap made between the 680 and the 780. Also, as said before, you will be dropping the same amount of money, (but most likely less money) on the 800 series cards.
I find the 780 worth it's money, it's way better than my previous 680.
Odd - I thought Nvidia wasn't allowing OEM partners to churn out this generation's reference designs with no end.
I walked into a computer shop and got one. Can't be that hard to get one. I think you're thinking of the 770. I don't know why people love the OEM coolers on 780.

Because it's simply good. It runs very cool and it's also very quiet.

[t]http://swefox.me/sharex/mG33.png[/t]
I meant the cooler which the OEMs eg Asus, MSI, Gigabyte ...etc stick on it . I don't know why people like this stuff:

But they put the same thing on the 760.

When reinforced with zipties because it's too heavy.
