Looking for a $50ish mouse with a good DPI that I can use for gaming, my current mouse makes Bf3 aiming hard due to weird skipping.
G400? Or get a bit more for a g9x or Steelseries Xai?
G500 is great for that price, except its $59.99, but it's really good. You can put weights on it.
I thought most mouse had weights already... my generic logitech black mouse has weights in it.
Why not go simple? http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/mice/devices/optical-gaming-mouse-g400 http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/intellimouse-explorer-3.0
Odellus made some pretty solid points about the WMO but I still wouldn't get it.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826292003 This has served me quite well for a while
What is the maximum DPI on the Intellimouse?
As far as I can tell it's 9000 FPS, 400 DPI.
As far as I can tell it's 9000 FPS, 400 DPI.
Well.. isn't that the opposite of what I want. I want to get rid of "pixel skipping" 2K+ DPI
Well.. isn't that the opposite of what I want. I want to get rid of "pixel skipping" 2K+ DPI
what does dpi have to do with pixel skipping
WMO, IMO 1.1, or IMO 3.0, all use the same great sensor, just have differences in ergonomics/buttons/weight.
what does dpi have to do with pixel skipping
Are you actually trying to help or just trolling.
in these tests you can see control vs dpi and how they aren't really related http://85.17.208.103/?a=longpost&id=1300293&page=4 the creative fatality has the absolute highest dpi but in control and malfunction categories it scores relatively low whereas the mx518 has medium dpi and among the highest control ratings also if youre having problems with pixel skipping set your windows mouse sensitivity to 6, the default value

I have sensitivity set on medium in BF3, and I understand I need a higher DPI mouse to support my higher sensitivity.
Raw input is on in Battlefield 3. I have sensitivity set on medium in BF3, and I understand I need a higher DPI mouse to support my higher sensitivity.
then id say go for the G400 definitely
then id say go for the G400 definitely
What about the G500?
What about the G500?
I don't see anything wrong with the mouse but you have to ask yourself before you buy: "Am I really going to need all of these features?" My MX518 has two sensitivity changers which I rarely touch ever and I'm lucky if I can find a use for the two buttons on the side for anything other than PTT. The G500 has even more buttons. It's worth saying, though, that the G500 has the ability to have the scroll wheel change between clicky (Wheel turns one tick and then stops) and smooth. (Wheel is frictionless and smooth when you turn it.) I've never played with it myself but a lot of people I know say they can't live without it. So it's definitely a good mouse, just make sure you're going to use all of the features when a mouse that's half the price will suit you just fine.

For example those mice with number pads on the side are apparently useful for MMO's, again according to my friends. Though I've never used one so I wouldn't really know, though it does seem like it might be a useful feature if he does play MMO's or whatever.
I must say, I picked up a Steelseries Xai last year and it has not faulted me since, it's very easily configurable, can switch profiles for different macros, dpi settings etc. Well worth the money.
I personally love my RAT5 because of the ergonomics, cord and the precision-aim button that lets me decrease the DPI instantly (good for selecting area/painting in photoshop, highlighting things, scrolling the bar in videos, sniping in BF3) You can also adjust the weights and palm rest on it, and there is a thumb rest too (reduces friction while gaming) There are 2 scrollwheels (even though i'm yet to find a use for the second one), and 2 customisable macro buttons which can also be used as mouse 4 and mouse 5. You can adjust DPI on the go with 4 adjusable settings and there are 3 macro profiles you can switch from and to on the go. Don't get a RAT 5.

It looks useful and all, but there is way too much going on in the thing.
What the fuck is that thing, doesn't look comfortable at all.
They're surprisingly comfortable actually, I tried one down at PCWorld the other day. Still prefer my Deathadder though, in terms of comfortableness at least, didn't get to use it on a pc.
I don't see all the hubbub with expensive mice. Give me a $40 mouse and I'm good for as long as it lasts. I mean, I have some Microsoft wireless mouse that isn't much worse than my old MX518. I'd say just get a G500, it'll last you a good while.
what does dpi have to do with pixel skipping
High DPI with a low sensitivity makes the mouse react smoother without it jumping on screen. Honestly, the difference between 800dpi and 5000dpi on my mouse is astounding. I like to think of it like antialiasing on my mouse. Running high resolution with downscaling.

I have a sidewinder X8, Its a decent mouse for $50 but its wireless and its performance is iffy.
recently went back to my G5v2 after having used my intellimouse for about a year, I really enjoyed how smooth it was going from 400 to 2000 dpi and it seemed more responsive (both were used with a 500Hz polling rate) I'd like to keep using it but my brother did something to it and now the mousewheel works about half the time you scroll and has an extreme amount of friction, the right click works for single clicks but if you try and hold it down it's like it repeats the click three or four times, and now the only G5s I can find are like $75+ [editline]19th December 2011[/editline] I would say just get whatever mouse you think looks nice because that's all it really comes down to nowadays
