Before I get banned, search wasn't working and google didn't come up with anything relevant.
I've got a HTC Touch HD flashed with one of Dutty's custom Windows 6.5 roms, and it's delicious. It makes my life that little easier, contacts, FB integration, GPS, WFI, 3.5mm jack etc.
But I don't know, it just lacks the "fun" side of things, yeah alright, don't get me wrong there are a fair share of games and different "fun" apps for WinMo but nothing compared to Android or iPhone.
I'm looking to swtich, and it's either the iPhone or the HTC Hero. I don't really want to buy an iPhone, purely because everyone else has one, (5 of my closest friends have 'em) and whenever I have a go on then, I really enjoy it. Cost is a major thing why I'm not buying it.
I'm paying £35 for my current contact, 500txts, 200mins, 500mb data and orange care.. which is a pretty good bargain. If i had the iPhone i'd be paying about £40~45ish for the same thing. Whereas with the HTC I would pay the exact same.
The reason I come here is because most of the reviews for the Hero are out dated by about 6-8 months, and I know a new phone like the Hero will have frequent ROM releases which fix the majority of bugs and what not.
Does any one here have the Hero or have compared them both?
I'd love to have the Hero because I know HTC have fantasitc build quality but I know the iPhone's app store is the best around but contrary to that the Android market is getting better and better each day with about 1/10th of the apps of the iPhone's app store.
Anything helpful would be greatly appreciated

If you like a large app library, then go for the iphone.
Otherwise, HTC Hero.

Actually here's an interesting image showing the quality of various manufacturers touch screens.

Straighter, less wavy lines are better.
Iphone + cool non important apps = awesome.
I have iPhone 3Gs 16gb :3:
iPhone hands down.
iPhone, you will not regret it.
Have you ever considered the Nexus One?
For games, get an iPhone. Most definitely. Currently there are very few good and extensive Android games, it really sucks. iPhone is quickly becoming a PSP killer.
The HTC Hero is amazing, but if you wait a month the HTC Bravo is coming out on T-Mobile UK for £35/month with the phone free.
It's basically the Nexus One under the hood except it has HTC's sense UI.
So you get twice the power under the hood (1GHz Snapdragon), an amazing interface, and much more.
One thing you should consider is that Android is very customisable and handle multitasking very well, whereas that is impossible with the iPhone.
I found my friends iPhone boring and dull compared to my dads Motorola Droid (which uses Android).
Furthermore, Androids app store is quickly catching up on the iPhone.
I just upgraded myself to the Eris(verzions hero) and should be here Wednesday, hope I made a good choice :X
mind you, I'm upgrading from this
I used to have an iPhone, recentlyish got an HTC Hero. I wouldn't dream of going back.
I have said it before and I'll say it again: When you pay for an iPhone you pay for the logo, the hardware really isn't that expensive. HTC Hero can do pretty much anything an iPhone can, and the price is less than half of an iPhone.
iPhone. Android has yet to be on a device with the same wow factor of an iPhone. Android will be a threat eventually, but for now it isn't there at all.
iphone.
Android has all the open source shit and everything but iphone came first with awesome shit.

At all? Android is brilliant.
Not compared to a jailbroken iPhone. it's been a year and a half and all Android devices have been mediocre or had some big flaw, and on top of this the threat of hardware fragmentation is becoming more and more real, and after the Nexus One turned out to be a bag of wank...not been great for Android so far.

IPhone is awesome
An Itunes gift card can go a long way in terms of apps and games.
I love mine
at&t is shit
at&t is shit
True, but there are rumors circulating that say the iPhone won't be tied down for long.
I'd go with the HTC Hero. I'm currently using a Samsung Moment w/ the Android OS, and I must say that Android blows away the Iphone's OS in terms of flexibility and potential.
I've got an HTC fuze (Touch Pro) and it's awesome, I strongly suggest any HTC phones.

How does that change anything att company and quality of service sucks.
If you can get the palm pre, do it. Its a great device, an as far as fun is concerned its a better gaming device then the hero.
Sh-t. Phoned Orange today, they quoted me £184 to get out of my 18 month contract at month 11. Then £89.99 for the iPhone itself on a 18 month £40/month contract. That's without OrangeCare..
So all in all, looking at about £300 and then £12 more per month.
What the hell.
I'm looking on eBay for a G1/G2(HTC HERO) for cheap and then leave the iPhone until the cost of ending the contact early goes down to about £50.
I'm really interested in the iPhone 'cause of all the badass pointless apps, but the cost..... about £1100 for 18 months?
Anyone want to give me their iPhone for my birthday?:lron:
Also looking to sell my HTC Touch HD for about £200 so the iPhone still isn't that away, just don't want to spend all that money initially!

Just stick with your existing contract and there will be much better phones available when it expires.

Point.
But I'm just bored with it. Need something a bit more exciting. I don't know what to do anymore. :unsmith:

I'm bored with my iPhone too, the novelty of any technology wears off once you have it for a while.
You may as well just wait it out.
Bored? I thought with a phone like the iPhone, getting bored is impossible? I'm glad you're puttin' your view forward, without you i'd probably be pro iPhone, but if you're bored.. daaaayum
More touch screens!
It makes us look more futuristic.
I wouldn't suggest an Iphone purely because it's so restrictive and you seem to be familiar with WM so I'll consider you like how expandable it is, and really everyone has an Iphone these days. Never used a Hero so I can't speak for it but I do suggest an HTC HD2, I have one and it's great. What service provider are you on?

If you want Windows Mobile, 6.5 with 6.6 on the horizon and it's the only device I know of that meets the rumoured minimum specs for WM7.
o2 have it for £35 a month, 600mins 1000texts and unlimited internet. Although a one off payment for £100, which is worth it for the most powerful smartphone on the market at present. T-Mobile paid HTC for a slightly enhanced version, and it's not coming to Europe so don't hold off for it if you planning to. Feel free to ask me questions about it.

I'd suggest you go T-Mobile instead. Unlimited texts, 1000 minutes for £35 for 24 Months. Or alternatively, you can get the same deal for £36 for 18 months instead. Both for the HTC HD2. I'm getting one soon
