Ok I need a build so I can finish my PC, I have the following parts already: Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Coolermaster 520w SLi/Xfire compatible 6 GB DDR2 RAM 2x2GB 2x1GB Sound Card 500GB HDD So I will need everything apart from kboard/mouse/monitor I am happy for either nVidia/ATi graphics cards, will need 4 ram slots, as for the case, I would like something that looked pretty kickass, if not just a simple case but with led fans window is preferred Budget - 200-300 GBP £ My old Rig was:
AMD Athlon x2 3ghz 3GB DDR3 Sli'd 9600gt Some generic gaymer case
So I want to see some improvements over that. I would be needing it to do the following: Play Source/UT3/GTA4/Crysis, you know the usall shit Be able to run 3DS Max/FPS Creator/Sony Vegas (rendering at HD with ease) I will post some ideas in here later Thanks Components I have decided on: Sunbeam Freezing Storm http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150298 - £30 MSI NF520T-C35 AM2+ Motherboard http://www.ebuyer.com/product/174005# - £38 ATi 4890 1GB http://www.ebuyer.com/product/179869 - £130 Coolermaster 8cm Red LED Case Fan http://www.ebuyer.com/product/160429 Sony AD-5240S 24x DVD±RW http://www.ebuyer.com/product/170014 Total = £218.14

That case is sex, the graphics card looks good aswell (robot frog ftw) isnt the gtx 260 as fast as a 4870?
4870 is better [editline]11:07PM[/editline] well they're about the same but 4870s are cheaper
4870 is better [editline]11:07PM[/editline] well they're about the same but 4870s are cheaper
How about a xfire/sli setup? I think that fits in my budget :clint:
Why not just grab a 5770, Keep the case thou, god it's like sex with 9 girls :axe: http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=398641&CatId=0
Maybe 2 of these if budget allows. The 5770 does seem nice dx11 + eyefinity ( i dual monitor) Coolermaster 690 has been chosen
The 5770 does seem nice dx11 + eyefinity ( i dual monitor) Coolermaster 690 has been chosen
If i were you I would probably xfire some 5770's.If you don't wanna xfire get a 5850?
It seems the 5850 has dropped in stock, I am getting my friend to get the parts, as he works for a shop that builds PC's and they get em straight from manufacturer
3 way sli is the way forward :O Motherboard : http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Motherboards/Socket+775+%28Intel%29/XFX+nForce+790i+Ultra+3-Way+SLI+Motherboard+?productId=38413
I cant get a Xfire setup - too much money I can get any of these cards: ATi 4870 - GTX 260 - ATi 5770 I am leaning towards the 5770 because of dx11/eyefinity but just want to know that its the best bang/buck
5770
Maybe a 4870 because its cheaper with just about the same performance as a 5770.
Updated OP, Final Specs: AMD Phenom II x4 940 3Ghz BE 6GB DDR2 RAM 500GB Hard Drive MSI AM2+ Motherboard ATI 4890 1GB Sunbeam Freezing Storm
Link to HD please. 6GB RAM is totally unnecessary - get 4GB instead.
Link to HD please. 6GB RAM is totally unnecessary - get 4GB instead.
Bad reading. He already has the RAM.
oops. sorry.
Maybe a 4870 because its cheaper with just about the same performance as a 5770.
Wtf? It may be cheaper but a 5770 has the more power.
Wtf? It may be cheaper but a 5770 has the more power.
Umm no its about the same power. http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-5770-review-test/14
I am gobsmacked, apoligies for misleading, Even so the 4870 doesn't support DX11.
I am gobsmacked, apoligies for misleading, Even so the 4870 doesn't support DX11.
that's not really important yet
that's not really important yet
It will come around
In about five years. DirectX 10 isn't even important yet.
Will there be a perfomance boost over a old 9600gt sli setup, most games dont get much of a boost from sli so I hope there is some boost, and plus for some reason source looked better with a ati card (my friend has one and it just looks alot better then mine both maxxed out)
Hmm it seems just 1 9600Gt can beat or even out with a 4670... Tom's Hardware - Benchmarks

get a 4870
Maybe a 4870 because its cheaper with just about the same performance as a 5770.
The 4890 is closer in performance to the 5770 than the 4870.
The 4890 is closer in performance to the 5770 than the 4870.
God dammit, So what should I get, my games dev teacher said either the ATI 4890 or the GTX 260 216 edition ATi 4890 1GB http://www.ebuyer.com/product/179869 - £130 (Most expensive) ATi 5770 1GB http://www.ebuyer.com/product/176938 - £120 (DX11 Eyefinity) ATi 4870 1GB http://www.ebuyer.com/product/175914 - £110 (Cheapest) nVidia GTX 260 216: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/179733 - £126 (robot frog! Physx/3D Vision Discover) Christ why did all the cheap crossfire motherboards go they are 70-80£ now :butt:
