In the mail today I got a nifty little fake credit card that swivels into a thumb drive. When I plug it in it runs a little command to get to their website but I thought "This would be an excellent little device to store secret files!" I cannot navigate to it through normal means, however. How can I access it?
format it?
Nevermind, I just read the top of the picture. .-.
Format it in safe mode.
Go through diskpart do list disk then do select disk (Number) clean create partition primary exit Should work.
Go through diskpart do list disk then do select disk (Number) clean create partition primary exit Should work.
It only lists my main hdd.
Right click My Computer > "Manage" > "Disk Management" > right click on drive and hit format.
Right click My Computer > "Manage" > "Disk Management" > right click on drive and hit format.
It doesn't list it.
When I plug it in it runs a little command to get to their website but I thought "This would be an excellent little device to store secret files!"
This has me confused, you plug it in and it brings up a website? Yet nothing is shown in the disk management? Then chances are it's not actually writable flash storage. Where did you get it?
It doesn't list it.
then it's most likely just fucked up/broken as i'm pretty sure that should always list everything even if it's a format windows doesn't read from or write to [editline]04:11PM[/editline] or something i don't know
What does Device Manager say the device is?
Device Manager calls it a USB composite device. When I plug it in it opens Run, types out a website, and submits it. Now that I think of it, it probably can't store anything.
Try uninstalling the drivers and manually installing the USB storage drivers.
Oh cool, I just got one of these.
Could it be a device that pretends to be a keyboard rather than a memory stick?
Maybe Gparted will have a better chance at finding it. That is, if it is an actual flash drive and not something that just executes a macro.
So you have an automated URL opener?
It doesn't list it.
D:\ what is that?
D:\ what is that?
probably his disc drive?
D:\ what is that?
Recovery partition?
probably his disc drive?
No, look at the image. It's the recovery partition
Lol. Two recovery partitions.
probably his disc drive?
Thanks, that solves the question! Good one detective. I'm wondering what this "FACTORY IMAGE" is.
Recovery partition?
This is more than likely correct. In resolution to the error, I don't think the drive can be formatted due to firmware on the chip. Your best bet is to be crafty and try to replace it.
Could you possibly take a look at what it is first, so we can determine what is on that flash drive? Use USBView [link] and take a screenshot. Richard, D:\ is most likely a recovery partition, some OEMs will add a second 10-20GB partition with an image of a fresh windows installation. If he has a major system error and can't boot into windows, it will give him the option of booting to D:\ and re-installing a fresh copy of the OS and it will usually backup all the contents of the hard drive to another folder, which can then be replaced.
That can't be a storage device, Win7 doesn't just run autostart like XP used to unless you set it to do so. It's most likely a keyboard emulation since, as you said,it actually types out the URL. If it was a program or script it could easily open your default browser with their URL.

Silly thing afterall.
That can't be a storage device, Win7 doesn't just run autostart like XP used to unless you set it to do so. My resolution to the issue would be, careful "hacking" of the card (replacement of the solid state device on it). Or, MAYBE, getting it through linux to format it to an empty file system, or through ntfs3g drivers, maybe push ntfs on it. can't say that this thing will be more than 512MB.
Who says it's a flash drive?
Who says it's a flash drive?
what happened to your other faggy avatar?

And yes, D:\ is my recovery partition.
It is a keyboard emulator.
