People keep fucking telling me to shave constantly, I want to grow it like a Gordon Freeman Style beard, but the sides (where the beard connects to the stash).
So since that is not really working, should I shave it or keep it?

I have copious amounts of facial hair, and zero acne.
When you're a teenager, shave everything. Teenagers can't grow thick facial hair so it always just looks ratty.
