dvd drive installation problem, help , anyone, my fingers are numb.

ok im going to fuking explode, need some help from my fellow fpers
my wife bought me a new mobo, and i7 and 8 gigs of ram for xmas (woop)
now ive got everyting installed in my new case etc etc, i can get into my previous installation of windows but.....i didnt realise my dvd drive isnt sata, its just a ribbon connector, so i went out to pcworld today and bought one of these adapter things, ide > sata conversion thing

s plugged it in and connected it to one of my sata connectors.
[b]heres the problem, on boot it gets stuck on "detecting ide drives" when I boot with it plugged in it will say this and eventually not even pick up my HDD. If i unplug it then windows boots normally[/b]
whats the problem?

please help, i need to reinstall windows and NEED my dvdrive (no i dont have a usb stick that isnt helpful to me)
