I'm set to fly the nest on Tuesday to move in with my girlfriend.
This means for the first time I'm in charge of stuff like TV, Telephone and internet provider.
I live in the UK, and I want to know who you're with, how much it costs and how good the service/speed is in relation to the monthly payment.
Go.
Don't get Virgin Media.
Don't get Virgin broadband unless you get their phone line as well.
They throttle your internet if you download too many linux distros in uTorrent
I hear O2 are decent
BeThere

Only if you're not on 50Mb.

BeThere are owned by O2.
ADSL24 provide 1 month contracts at something like £20, but there is a download limit that I don't know

Looking at them now, interesting...

Ahhhh. So...good or not?
my internet is very fast here in finland this place is almost like tokyo
PlusNet is good I have heard.
My internet is decent for what I use. Talk Talk formerly Tiscali
I'm with TalkTalk at home it my parents, at first it was utterly terrible but it's been fine for years now.
Whatever you do, don't get TalkTalk
My dad has it, and we cannot escape from the horrors of it. Slow speeds, intermittent connection.
Oh and Sky is utterly shit too.
I'm with Utility Warehouse (best kept secret of UK for ISP)
Cheap connection bill, 15 mb/s at worst
Virgin Media are fantastic if you abide by their fair use policy (unless you grab the 50MB or 100MB package), which basically amounts to your speed being throttled if you download over ~1GB between 4pm and 9pm. You'll get your advertised speed 99% of the time and there is no monthly download cap.
if you want to get cable then go for virgin.
if you don't or can't, for adsl it's pretty hard to beat bethere/o2
they both run on the same systems - if you've got a mobile phone with o2 you save some money going with o2.
be is a great service and their customer service is pretty much second to none.
don't forget you'll have to pay line rental to bt as well if you go with adsl.

Not o2 for adsl
Not o2 for adsl
why wouldn't you go with o2

Good.
Virgin are pretty crap. On 50mb and speeds were great the start but now its not great. Unlimited but not during the day, you do anything and you get throttled. Nothing is unlimited just remember that.
I recommend UKFSN, you can monitor your bandwidth usage so you know exactly how much you are using without any bullshit.
Don't get Orange...
They really really do suck.

Too right. I've never met someone with something good to say about Orange. My brother got so fed up with them he took the livebox and ran it over a few time in his car.
why wouldn't you go with o2
Poor speeds. I used to be with them, then we switched. Luckily for us, the customer service was pretty good at changing us over quickly
Avoid Virgin Media, terrible customer service and their net sucks because of the throttling.
I have Virgin Media here.
I advise you not to go with Virgin Media :smith:
BeThere.
Fucking.
The.
Best.
(Atleast, since last month)
Basically it is incredibly fast, reliable, and I don't get throttled, sadly I have a terrible router from them.

do what mike says
Ahhhh. So...good or not?
O2 owns the lines, BeThere rents it from them
that doesn't mean the service isn't fucking awesome though
TalkTalk are the worst. Get Sky instead. Or PlusNet.
Don't get Virgin Media.
Enjoying my 50mbit internet with no download throttling or maximum amount, best internet available in my area by a long shot.

Only if you have the shitty options, the 50mb doesn't get restricted, and the 20mb gets throttled if you download more than 7gb in 6 hours

Definitely. Too bad I can't get 50Mb back home.
Virgin = throttle happy fuckwads
O2 = Good , but intermittant downtime
Talk Talk = Great, if you live in a city. Otherwise LOLZ SORRY NO SERVICE.
