• Help With Backtrack

Me and a few other interns at my school have been tasked with fucking with the network. Our tech teacher gave us a project to figure out how to take down the network[not permanently]. Me and the other interns have decided on installing backtrack on one of the laptops provided and doing a syn-flood on our school's proxy server so nobody can get out to the internet. The problem is we have no idea how to do this as none of us are experienced in linux, How would we go about doing this? Any other ideas for taking the network down are appreciated as this is one of the few good ideas we have come up with.
unplug every ethernet cable.
We are trying to find security vulnerabilities...

What in gods name made you pick Backtrack for this job? And an SYN Flood doesn't always work if you do it locally, if at all.
I have severe doubts of your story.
First off, it sounds kinda strange your teacher gave you a task to take down the network? Second, if you crash the proxy, how will you access the Internet? The 2 things is counter productive. If you just wanna access the Internet, I suggest going with tor, it have always been good to me. If you wanna take down the server, I suggest you just flood the server with request.
You can doubt my story all you want. My tech teacher tasked me and the other interns with coming up with a plan of attack and implementing it. We are being provided wireless devices by the school. My tech teacher suggested backtrack as that is what alot of other people use for testing network integrity. I am not trying to get on myspace or anything as Nisd is suggesting either.
ARP Poisioning.
Check if any network hardware is using the default username/password...
ARP Poisioning.
This can really screw with a network if you never send the packets off to their destination once they've been sent to you. Took my school network down no trouble.

This might help: http://forum.intern0t.net/offensive-guides-information/603-arp-poisoning-mitm-attack.html People on #init6 @ irc.mintirc.net might also help.
yeah arp poisoning is probalby one of your best shots

backtrack is a bloated hunk of shit, and if you don't know much about linux you're not going anywhere fast by throwing yourself into a fairly complex set of tools.
backtrack is a bloated hunk of shit, and if you don't know much about linux you're not going anywhere fast by throwing yourself into a fairly complex set of tools.
Backtrack is a good tool in the right hands, ie not those of skiddies. It's designed to be used by professional pentesters. This, you are not. For heavens sake, don't damage the hardware or your school is not going to be best pleased, assuming your story is legit that is: and personally I don't believe it is. Can you prove it?
