God why keep the 60s theme, that was thing that bugged me the most, it's as if 2K Marin's art team can't do anything but it.
Seriously, do we need another third person cover shooter? Please, 2K Martin, just show me one thing that doesn't make me more apathetic towards your game.
Everything better then a FPS, I guess.
and here we go again
-snip-
nevermind thought this was firaxis; expect as much from 2k right now
Honestly, 2k needs to just cancel this game, Firaxis has already made a real xcom reboot, nobody wants this one.
I don't know how or why developers got the urge to turn strategy games into shooters.
if this is true: FUCK!!! So much potential down the drain!
Not really. This is the XCOM game that people aren't so excited for. Enemy Unknown seems a lot better.
EDIT: Oh, reverse ninja'd?

I wouldn't mind an X-Com FPS, I think it'd be pretty cool if they did it right and didn't just have random blobs attacking.

Would be interesting for an FPS where you actually research your own equipment and manage your missions before you go off on them.

Would be awesome if it would be done Star Wars: Republic Commando style.
Everything better then a FPS, I guess.
Not really, you could have an FPS with more tactics and strategy than the original XCOMs. For some reason though devs seem to be incapable of not making anything that is first person into a run&gun shootfest (and third person just become another chest-high wall arena).

Whatever happened to this?

What about the many old X-Coms that where made? they where far closer resemblance than these two and I'd rather have both, why not?

What was wrong with the 60s theme? I haven't played any XCOM games before but this looked pretty interesting.

The new xcom by firaxis is a modern reimagining of the old games, this was an unrelated fps with the name slapped on to try and take your money.
The gunplay looked so clunky, I'm glad it's being reworked, but they should just change the title, as it is only there for marketing reasons, it is a slap to the face to fans of the original.
What was wrong with the 60s theme? I haven't played any XCOM games before but this looked pretty interesting.
The problem was that they put the XCOM name on it. If they hadn't done that, but made it still very similar, no one would be complaining (about the setting, at least).

It just doesn't fit, X-Com's supposed to be a globe trotting organisation that kills or captures aliens not your local FBI office that gets in over their heads.
If anything, XCOM is a sort of late 90's thing; from what I remember that's when the games were set.

The far off future of 1998!

You mean something like some of the early rainbow six games, or more in depth?

Tactical gameplay and mission planning, yes, but also having bases and research involved like X-COM (well, any other game in the series than this one really). You'd start off with pretty basic, less effective weapons and armor, and use resources gained in missions to upgrade your troops.
What was wrong with the 60s theme? I haven't played any XCOM games before but this looked pretty interesting.
Well, the 60s themselves don't really have anything wrong, the problem is that you were pretty much some sort of US FBI/Police organization. The whole point of X-COM is that it's a huge initiative by all the nations to protect the planet, not just an American thing.
Honestly though, I don't really have anything against the idea, they just tone down the scale, and instead of being a full scale alien assault it's most like small infiltrations and scouting, and have the game focus more on investigation and researching/understanding what the aliens are doing rather than going on a full out war in the streets against giant aliens with lasers and whatnot. Could do fine as a prequel to the true X-COM alien invasion or just a spinoff.
Again, I do like the idea of a X-COM fps, but it has to keep the same amount of tactics and strategy as the top-down counterparts (play in FPS, have a overhead view to pause the game and control the behavior/orders of your teammates).
an FPS reboot of turn-based strategy games can still work if the developer knows what they're doing. Hell, an X-com FPS/TPS could be fuckin' rad if 2K didn't insist on making it oversimplified and barely reminiscent of the rest of the series.
Still, at least the Enemy Unknown remake seems to be really damn good, so it's not like the series is "ruined" or whatever, but it makes this other remake look like even more of a waste of time and money.

Then again, I am also jumping to conclusions on this one. Who knows, maybe they have smartened up, and perhaps it will turn out good, but so far, 2K Marin hasn't seemed to be too keen on making a faithful reboot.
I would have liked to see it in the 50's theme. It wouldn't have been an Xcom game but there aren't many games with aliens in the 50's so it would have been a cool shooter to see.
If you are a true XCOM fan you'll remember a certain XCOM game that was also a TPS and was horrible.

The voice acting was horrible too, does anyone else remember what the scientist screamed when you died?
