My budget is around 1k, and I am looking for as smooth performance as I can get, while trying to keep future issues to a minimum. I am transitioning from an ASUSG73JH gaming laptop and am looking at desktops.
Does anyone have any prebuilt recommendations? I am also open to building my own but that's only if I can make really solid savings doing it.
I'll update the OP as I research, and thanks for any input.
Are you looking to overclock? Do you need an OS, monitor, keyboard, mouse?

Overclocking is definitely on the table if it's worthwhile. I am not very savvy on these types of things though, so I am worried about long term viability/degradation. I have the rest sorted, but thank you.
Here ya go. Great performance, maxing any game at 1080p short of maybe the witcher with everything crazy up. Great overclocking. Feel free to swap the 390x for an MSI 980 if that's your preference.

If you stay within recommended voltage and heat limits it'll last quite a while under overclock. It's 1.3V for haswell.
Just an alternate build:

Damn guys that's really thorough, thank you.
Are there any prebuilts worth looking at or is building one the absolute best bet?
