Half Life 2 Freezes and crashes when starting a new game.

I recently Installed Windows 7 (works great btw) And HAlf life 2 keeps loading and crashing during game. When starting a new game it brings up the big HALF LIFE 2 sign Also the ""Steam community enabled ingame"" pops up and it freezes i tryed several things. And i dont know how to fix it. heres some of the things i tryed doing.

Tryed list.
1. Uninstall n Reinstall
2. +mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +snd_async_prefetch_priority 1 in The launch options
3. Reinstalled steam and then the game

And no luck. Can some one please help me.

Did you install video card drivers?

I had vista before this happened. And so when i install windows 7 everything was the same except the ui and stuff.
so yes they should be installed. ill go run and see if theres a update tho.

Oh. i think i found the problem. I had Drivers for Vista. i needed to get windows 7 ill let you know if this works

If you installed a new OS the drivers don't carry over from the old OS.

I updated my drivers still no luck. i also turned off steam ingame no help there.
can you guys please help me

Are you running 32bit or 64bit? And what video card do you have?

I,m running 32. A 9800 gt.

Yes do i have to uninstall the old drivers aswell?

Ok now i tryed -windowed and how it gives me Hl2.EXE has stoped working. Is it easyer to fix this?

No. Like i said i reinstalled hl2. But i do have the L4d skin for steam could that do anything to it?

Wait. i have some Mods that use the Hl2 engine. neotokyo, Palebo, City 17 can that mess it up

Mods can't mess it up.

I suggest you uninstall all old drivers and use 'nasty file remover' to delete any remaining files, then reinstall the latest versions of the drivers.

Did that. Uninstalled old video driver and sound driver and installed the ones for Windows 7 still no luck. maybe if i explain a little more it might help It crashes when the HALF LIFE 2 sign when u start a new game comes up right when the HALF LIFE 2 gets real bright Its crashes And in Hl2 Episode 2 when i get into the citadel i walk around and then it freezes and does the same thing and its a area i cant avoid ( Main pathway)
