"add more hats" - yanis varoufakis "he's brilliant, hire him!" - valve
His accent is funny.
I would have thought they already had one, seeing all their game sales and game trading economies.
Sounds like it's becoming necessary, but I can't shake off the ill feeling whenever more suits get into a business founded on ideals.

Besides, Valve doesn't seem to make mistakes when they hire people.
will we get a new york hat exchange?

Seems like they want an economist to advise them rather than to have him impose his own system.
You learn a lot about economics playing TF2.
Sounds like it's becoming necessary, but I can't shake off the ill feeling whenever more suits get into a business founded on ideals.
Yeah, I hope it doesn't screws up with anything. Valve has everything where it should have. Having it turn into EA or Activision would be like losing almost all hope in the top of the line game industry.
This was despite the fact that he was not a gamer and he last played a computer game - space invaders - in 1981.
Hmm this could be a problem. I hope Gabe Newell knows what he's doing.
Sounds like it's becoming necessary, but I can't shake off the ill feeling whenever more suits get into a business founded on ideals.
This guys not a suit, he's a professor. He's probably going to basically study virtual economies, use that to A) extrapolate into the real world and B) help game companies (hopefully) create more healthy economies that are less harmful to individuals in the economy with less resources.
Hmm this could be a problem. I hope Gabe Newell knows what he's doing.
Not really, they hired him for economic advise, not game development advice, it's then Valve's job to implement that advice into a way that works in video games.
As long as he doesn't fuck with my Steam sales
will we get a new york hat exchange?
Weapon street avenue?
it'd be hilarious if he was into austrian economics lmao
You learn a lot about economics playing TF2.
You should try playing EVE Online then. Having various Excel documents for most things is almost mandatory.
this guy's good with numbers right? maybe he can teach valve to count to three
"Hey joe what's your job?" "Oh, I'm a hat manager for TF2!"
Not really, they hired him for economic advise, not game development advice, it's then Valve's job to implement that advice into a way that works in video games.
Well yes, but I was thinking he might not have a sense as to how much gamers usually want to pay.
it'd be hilarious if he was into austrian economics lmao
I read his wikipedia and it said he was Australian, my heart almost skipped a beat there
Well yes, but I was thinking he might not have a sense as to how much gamers usually want to pay.
He's going to be working out how to manage virtual economies, that has absolutely completely jackshit to do with setting price points for products
You should try playing EVE Online then. Having various Excel documents for most things is almost mandatory.
Exactly, "spreadsheets the game" is a pretty fitting title for EVE.
Exactly, "spreadsheets the game" is a pretty fitting title for EVE.
I don't understand you people. The only spreadsheets I can find in eve is the market. And even then, it's not hard to use or read. [editline]16th June 2012[/editline] Don't just rate disagree Blackbird88, explain yourself to enlighten us on why you think I am wrong.
"add more hats" - yanis varoufakis "he's brilliant, hire him!" - valve
no, the economist wants to take a new innovative risk! "you should add shoes!"
this guy's good with numbers right? maybe he can teach valve to count to three
"okay count with me...1, 2..." gabe - "episode 1!"
As long as he doesn't fuck with my Steam sales
"Have you tried 76% off?" Banks across the world collapse overnight due to people withdrawing all their savings.
