• Desktop Will Randomly Stop Responding

A few days ago my desktop randomly stopped responding for about 30, or more seconds. I was trying to drag a folder from the desktop to a different HDD, but the cursor wasn't dragging the folder. I tried clicking on it, but it wouldn't open I tried opening random things like the recycle bin but nothing was opening, I couldn't drag anything, right click wasn't bringing up any menus or highlighting things when dragged. The weird thing is everything on the doc including the start button was working. Steam was working just fine I could launch Chrome without a delay and access the metro screen. I did a scan for malware, but nothing came up. Just a few hours ago though it has happened again, and for around a similar period of time, and it's the same thing. Desktop isn't working, but the doc is. I had the PC on for a couple of hours, and just closed Chrome before it happened, so I know for sure it's not windows being slow during start up. Could it possibly be a bug with Windows 8, or could my HDD be dying? Not sure what to pin this on.
Lets make sure its not malware can you post a hijackthis log http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/hijackthis/ Also it would probably be a good idea to check your disk activity see if anything is going on while the computers idle. Another thing to try is run your computer in safe mode and see if its still slow.
Try changing the hard drive sleep timer setting in power options.
