Interesting way to get people to try the demo.
That's actually pretty creative
I just tried it and it feels like a flimsy, unpolished tech demo that's a pain in the ass to control. It just takes the gimmicks of other games and does them worse. Hardly something I'd want to pay money for.
It's pretty buggy. The little girl you're supposed to escort can just run around everywhere and the guards won't spot her.
I just tried the demo and I don't think it's very good. It's an escort quest but the AI don't see Lily so it's just trying to wrangle her retarded AI while staying out of sight. Lily also moves to set points depending on where you are and will ignore your commands if you move at all. The movement is super floaty, which would feel shitty in a normal platformer or stealth game, and time freezes when you let go of the movement keys rather than when you stop moving. This is an important distinction because Shadwen keeps her momentum so if you decide to let time advance without moving she can just go right off a ledge. The grappling hook controls like ass. Pressing the movement keys completely negates momentum, meaning you can go from standing to swinging almost horizontally on your first swing, and the ability to reel the rope in and out is far too slow. The gadgets you get are also pretty mediocre. A tripwire dart, a mine, and a time bomb to kill people. A ball thing to distract people, but it just causes everyone to stand exactly where they are while one person runs over to destroy it instantly, it distracted a group for maybe 2 seconds and opened no holes in their line of sight. Not that that matters anyway seeing as they can't see Lily and Shadwen can just grapple over the entire area. It also doesn't give you any indication of if you're being spotted or if you can be spotted. I ran past a guard while I was 1 and a half metres away from him and there was no reaction from him. Do the shadows hide you? I don't know because the game gives no indication, but standing upright that close to a guard should get me spotted. The demo is buggy, the physics on Shadwen and the barrels and crates is pretty crap, the movement is floaty, there's no feedback for anything, your ability to move and interact with the environment is absurdly limited (especially considering you have a grappling hook), and the AI is brain dead. Also the time stopping 'mechanic' adds absolutely nothing to the game, all it lets you do is shoot the grappling hook mid-air, which wouldn't be needed if the controls were good. Even if they tightened up the physics and movement, even if they make the AI no completely retarded, I don't think this will be a good game. It's an escort quest for the whole game, there's no feedback for anything you do, the entire art style is so muddy everything becomes a greyish, brown blob outside of you immediate focus.
This is disappointing, the Trine games are pretty good. At least up until 2, I haven't played 3 yet.
I'm just amazed that a game actually has a demo.
Can't even get it to load halfway.
Trine 3 is apparently kind of a piece of shit.
I've played through the whole game and 100%'d all the achievements with a friend of mine and the quality is definitely a massive leap downwards. It's still a fun experience but it's immensely less polished with a major list of game breaking flaws and severe issues
