heyya facepunch, lets say i'm a hobo. whats the cheapest computer i could build that could browse the web?

any PC can browse the web, really. I'd recommend just grabbing a cheap ass second hand rig off any website that sells used PCs.
1. Go to the Salvation Army
2. Dig through piles of stuff.
3. find old computer
4. Put linux on it
5. ????
6. Profit!

I agree, any computer can browse the web, I recommend just buying something off of eBay.

Just get something rubbish from eBay.
By 'browse the web' I'm gonna assume you mean 'watch high definition streaming video' too.
That means you can get by with a 2 to 3ghz Pentium 4 single core(or AMD equivlalent) IF you can pair it with a videocard that does Flash acceleration. Go to the Adobe Flashplayer website to see which cards from ATI and Nvidia qualify.
That way when you look for a used computer and videocard you'll know which ones do what you need.
Why would you build a desktop for browsing.
Honestly getting a cheap laptop would be my answer.
