So today I took a friend of mine to get a new headset from microcenter and figured I'd get something to replace my old $20 pair while I was there. The Razer Carcharias caught my eye and I figured hey, looks cool why not get it. Having had it for several hours however I'm regretting the decision slowly but surely. The damn thing gives off a horrible hissing sound when there's no audio (and I swear I can still hear it even when there is audio). It's not too bad, but it's just constant white noise that I would rather not exist. I've heard that the USB connector it uses may be the problem for this (I tried using a wall charger for my iPhone as other sites advised to no avail, it only got slightly less worse) or that it may be the onboard audio being of improper quality. Do you guys think I should just ditch it for a better quality one (and if so any suggestions) or is there a possible fix outside of getting a new soundcard?
I've got the same problem with my turtlebeach X12s.
It's very annoying and the microphone makes a lot of hissing/static noise whenever I'm in a call with someone or whenever I try to record something

scratch the mic thing, looks like lowering the mic quality in my audio manager to DVD and putting on noise suppression made it better.
Granted its still there, but it's less noticeable
Electrical/radio interference. I was having the same issue a couple days ago. I just made sure the plug was seated fully in the socket and it went away, helps if you plug it in when your computer is turned off, in my experience.
Your on board sound is good enough if it's in working order. There's no real difference between it and a sound card.
Try plugging it into the back of your computer rather than the front, if you've built a computer you should notice that long line of cables going throughout your PC which usually aren't shielded.
Some sound cards will have amps which will pretty much be the only difference, it also may just be your mic isn't too good, but plugging it into the back should remove the noise.
