• Old Xbox Controller + USB

So I had an old xbox controller laying around and I decided to try and convert it to usb so I can play my racing games. I used this short guide: http://www.ehow.com/how_5349071_convert-xbox-controller-usb.html I downloaded the drivers: http://www.redcl0ud.com//xbcd.html#download But it doesn't work for me because I have windows 7. It just says "unknown device". So Facepunch, if you use xbox controllers with your PC, how did you get yours to work? Thanks.
Real smart kiddo.
The controller is now ready to be plugged into the computer. The computer will read the device and install it as an "unknown device." If needed, you can download XBCD drivers for the controller at websites like http://www.redcl0ud.com//.
Uh, it will read it as unknown.
XBCD Version 1.07 Windows 98/2000/XP It doesn't work for Windows 7
Alright somehow I got it to show up in Device Manager but it says: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)
That means you need to boot Windows with Driver Signing disabled. So, at boot you hit F8 and pick the option. You're going to have to do that every time you want to use it.
Just enable test mode. Google it.
I used this: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/11/18/force-load-unsigned-drivers-in-test-mode-easily-in-windows-7-or-vista-with-driver-signature-enforcement-overrider/ Thanks for the help.
Jesus fuck... Plug in the Xbox controller and do a Windows Update. The driver shows up as an "Optional Update" Couldn't be simpler. :downs:

XBCD works in Windows 7. I use it myself.
-snip- Whoops.
I never once said 360 in my post, did I? :downs:
since when is there an optional update for supporting xbox controllers?
since when is there an optional update for supporting xbox controllers?
...Since always? Besides, the XBCD drivers work fine in Windows XP compatibility mode.
I had to use Xp mode to get my scanner to work, even booting with driver singing disabled didn't do shite.
...Since always?
Yes since MS would definitely provide Windows drivers for a controller that you can't even plug into a computer without cutting and splicing wires.
IIRC pixel dumbass said the same thing in another thread about wireless 360 controllers being plugged in directly via USB ...and it didn't work
IIRC pixel dumbass said the same thing in another thread about wireless 360 controllers being plugged in directly via USB ...and it didn't work
Funny, I've never experienced Xbox or Xbox 360 driver issues. Windows update finds the drivers and installs them for me. The controllers just work. I use them for emulated games, and they both work flawlessly. I honestly don't know what everyone's fucking problem is setting up these Xbox controllers. My guess is an error between the chair and the keyboard.

And as was already mentioned, the Xbox controller requires hardware modding or an adapter as well as a third party driver, since Microsoft doesn't provide one: The only controller that you can just plug in and have it work immediately is the wired 360 controller.

Hi, sorry to bump but I did this aswell and I folowed the guide in the third link GunskiMod posted but it isnt working, partly because I'm not sure how to sign the test driver with DESO. Because I dont know where it is, do I sign the .exe file before I intall it or is there a .dll file somewhere? What do I do? On Windows 7 by the way. Edit: To clarify, step 3 of how to use the DESO program is this: Select Sign a System File and click Next, and specify the full path to the system file that wants to be signed. It doesn't specify what file I'm actually supposed to sign, or where it is.
