okay so I made an IRC channel last night on the Foonetic server with the username "Zack" registered on the NickServ. naturally, today I tried to login and my username was already taken. no idea how that could have happened without the password, but regardless.
i'm trying to re-gain Operator status on the room that i created using the password, but for some reason i just can't do it. do i really have to be logged in as username Zack to be able to get Op status on the room?
When you register an account with Authserv, the way it usually works is that your account login name is just that, a login. Your network nick is something different. If "Zack" is already taken (it is a common name so it'd make sense) you can usually just do /nick zyxabc and change your network nick to something else.
Even if you use a different nick, Authserv should still recognize you because most IRC accounts are based on hostnames and IP addresses rather than by anonymous names that can be more easily spoofed.
In any case, you must be authenticated with Authserv to have user flags in an IRC channel (Op, voice, etc.)
