As i was launching Eve online, my laptop froze and i turned it off via the power button, but when i turned it back on again. It's display wasn't like it was before
Laptop: HP pavillion dv9000 (windows vista sp1)
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS

Yea, it's dead.
dead
The DV9000's are notorious for having GPU failure issues, is your warranty still good?
You could try baking the card if it's out of warranty

Assuming that it's possible to remove it

it's a laptop.
it's a laptop.
that's why he said "assuming it's possible to remove it"

Graphics cards can be removed from some laptops (not really a common thing though)
But even then it's possible to bake absolute everything (without the screen and plastic and such obviously), however you're putting the mobo at risk.
Wow, do you know what caused this problem? I have the exactly same card as you, and it tends to freeze from time to time when playing games.

Heat.
Seems like the DV9000 series is absolute junk. Mine had sound/video/battery/charger issues and is now rendered unusable because it is out of warrenty and they want $496 to fix sound/video +$49 for the charging port and the battery costs $119.
My HP DV9500T died on me after two years of use. $1600 that it was.....I took it apart and discovered the cause. This may seem like common knowledge but when you find thick dusk clogging the side intake vent that links to a fan > thermal cover > thermal paste = fried laptop. The dust was actually BEHIND the heat-sink, not in front of it, so if you took an air cannon and blasted the side vents it would do no good. There lies the defect of the laptop....literally I stripped it down to the motherboard.
I've got these graphics problems too, uninstalled my current graphics driver and installed the newest one. Worked for me.
But I doubt it will work here, you could try anyways.

what a surprise. i had the same laptop with the same config and the gpu died horribly.
My card overheated completely, i'm surprised it didn't melt...
I tried to open my laptop up, but it would only open the one side and the otherside wouldn't open at all, my current temp is 67c, and i'll be monitoring it for the next hour... Thanks for the help people

Had it for 2 years, pretty sure it's expired.

Overheating, i guess i should try and move some shit away from this table (i didn't see anything blocking the fan at the time)

If i could open the motherfucker, i'd clean it out til i can see my face in it... I guess i'll have to hit it with a crowbar
I followed this to disassemble it.

Look at removal and replacement procedures.
I launched eve online again, logged on and as soon as it was using the card the screen went blank. I turned it off via the power and the same thing happened in the 2nd screenshot...

I highly recommend you stop gaming on the Laptop, you're going to brick it.

:( - i have done the past 2 years and it's been fine... Guess i'll leave my gaming on weekends with my other computer
Unless your laptop has a dedicated graphics card (which I doubt), you won't be able to remove the card.
