So, my 8800gt died today. I need to get a new card now. (Fuck) Is this GTX285 good? Is it compatible with my Q6600/nforce 780i mobo/650w PSU http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0311194
Yes
It isn't worth it. For $10 more you can get the 4870X2, which is much better : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150349 or a gtx 280 for much less and only a small performance difference.

huh, can't find any 280s on newegg a 275 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500108 might be worth considering
So something like this? http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0314490 I have to buy from that store, because I have no access to buying things online atm, and they don't seem to have the 4870X2 [editline]09:52AM[/editline] also, I am looking at my PSU, and it has the +12v, but what am I looking for on it for the (40A) specification? [editline]09:56AM[/editline] this is my PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171023
Graphics cards need power from the 12V rail, which is measured in amperage. In the specifications of a PSU, look for 12v@40a, probably a single-rail. This one will work for ya, http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0273361 If you get an OC card, get better cooling!
What about something like these? http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0305408 http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0273361

[editline]10:18AM[/editline] between the 275 and 280
depends on the resolution, but most likely not enough to be worth the extra cost with an 8800GT chances are you're on 1680x1050 or lower in which case I'd say go for the 275 because you don't need any more power than that
okay.. the description on the 275 bothers me. is it one of those cards that are made more for 3ds max and that type of thing?
The GeForce GTX 275 GPU with CUDA™ technology not only provides astonishing gaming performance, but it also delivers incredible GPU computing performance for everything from video transcoding to video and photo editing. Whether it's transcoding (converting) HD videos in minutes to your portable video player using Badaboom, helping discover a cure for cancer via folding@home, or rapidly editing digital photos using Adobe CS4, the GeForce GTX 275 GPU does it all with outstanding performance. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/gaming-graphics-charts-2009/Fallout-3,1172.html Fallout 3, high graphics and a big res, 1.1FPS difference, and above 60 you're not going to see any difference anyway
1680x1050 btw
that's just an advert type thing for CUDA which you most likely won't afect you [editline]03:27PM[/editline] yeah I'd go for the 275 then more than enough and it'll last you
okay.. i think i will do that, thanks for the help on my way out the door
okay.. i think i will do that, thanks for the help on my way out the door
Is it under warrenty? If not, damn I would love to be able to just go to a store, and buy a fancy new card.
