this generation of consoles is a wreck

I thought this launch actually has been relatively uneventful. The problems that are around seem rather normal. Some drives don't work, some login servers are buggy, etc.

Uh, every generation has had issues, last generation was disc drives and ylod/rrod.

I read that the failure rate of day one 360s was around 40%, and I imagine that failure rates of the two new consoles are nowhere near that much.

I'd say that compared to last gen's launch, this is much better.
Sony actually is getting units sold, and compared to the failure rate of the 360, the Xbone is doing much better.

I was gonna make a joke about the Ouya having a good launch but that thing got an update close to launch that bricked the console as well.

wasn't that like a lifetime stat, like the box could suddenly RRoD a year or two down the line and it was considered a 'day 1 console failure'? I severely doubt 40% of boxes were flukes off the shelf. We could be seeing plenty of issues down the line yet
Happens with every console release because they try to make production as cheap as possible.

I don't think they tried doing that with the PS3, it had everything. A card reader, hardware PS2 emulation, expensive bluray drive... And a feature called five hundred and ninety-nine US dollars.
