Hey y'all, so I decided that my old rusty computer could use some fresh parts, because right now it's not the greatest thing ever
Specs (untouched HP pavilion elite 110):
CPU: Intel Core i5 650 3,2 GHz
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GT230
Motherboard: MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E)
Ram: 6GB
HDD: 1TB
I'm kinda new to this, so what should I get to make my computer more performing than right now ?
Do you happen to live near a Microcenter? http://www.microcenter.com/ Also do you need an OS and any peripherals (monitors, keyboard, mouse, speakers)
Here's what I recommend

You won't need an HDD since you already have one and you won't need an OS since you already have one installed, though there MIGHT be some problems with the new motherboard. People say reinstall OS, but since the two motherboards are similar I'm not sure if it'll really matter. You'd have to research it a bit. No need for a OD since you already have one.
You could also just opt out of buying 8gb of ram and get 1 2gb stick (since I'm assuming you have 3x2gb?). Then even if you don't live near a micro center you could still get the 4670k+mb for the same price.
You could upgrade your GPU, PSU, and add an SSD for now for $450. I would add an enormous amount of performace, but you would then be bottlenecked by your CPU.

Then you could put that $250 left in the budget towards saving up for a new mobo/proc/RAM to alleviate that bottleneck when you get the money with

Alternatively, if you do not think you'll get any more money to put to the desktop anytime soon, you could do a complete overhaul with

It won't perform quite as well, but can run mostly any modern game on high, and will get you on your feet immediately if there is little to no chance at future spending.
I'm guessing he's got 3x2gb (1333ghz) ram, so he might as well just buy another stick for like 25 instead of getting brand new ones. Won't make much of a difference really.
Actually I've seen 1 4gb and 1 2gb more often. And they're shitty non-heatsinked Hynex. Also most likely 1066 because the board only supports 1066 and 1333 and I'm sure HP saved about $1 per system to put in 1066.
Does that even work for dual channel?
No, it does not. But it does work in terms of usable RAM.
