• Should I format my hard drive?

Well, long story short my computer keeps very briefly blue screening (for about 0.5 seconds, can't find the error message) then restarting on boot. My first guess was a hardware problem, so I ran memtest on it, found tons of errors and replaced the ram. The problem continued so I ran a livetest on it with kali linux to see if the hardware was fine, and it worked. I backed up my files onto a portable hard drive from there so nothing of value would be lost. My next plan of action was to delete absoutely everything from my hard drive using kali linux then booting up using nothing but the windows CD. I need to know if this is a sound plan, since I'm not very well versed in computers. Will nothing work after I do that or will windows installation work fine? [t]http://i.imgur.com/VR6w9xN.jpg[/t] also, is this the right CD? Will it install windows completely? also, before anyone says to just use that CD and reinstall everything, I've tried but it crashes before i can do anything
If you just want to format, then you just format using only the windows disc
This doesn't work because it crashes before I can do anything
So when you boot from the Windows CD, then it crashes? If thats the case, then formatting does not help a thing, unless you plan on installing Linux.
Posted this just before, could help you out some. Try this, its called DBan and nukes your drives into an NTFS format which OS's tend to prefer. http://www.dban.org/download You can mount onto a USB with this handy tool. http://rufus.akeo.ie/ I would disconnect any drives you wish to not format as its easy to potentially wipe them accidentally. You'll have to create a USB bootable with the ISO image of DBan you downloaded, with the rufus tool.
Doing anything more than a generic format will just waste time, it won't help his issue.
It's cool guys i formatted and everything works fine, thanks for the advice though. I'll keep it in mind if it happens again.
