I've recently been having some issues with my laptop.
I have a friend that I game with often and I have always brought my laptop to his house and we play random stuff. Recently we've been playing League of Legends and I noticed that whenever I played on his wifi that I had extremely bad lag spikes. My ping would jump from 50 to 1100~1400 and the game would literally stop. I have played this same game at my house, the library, my university, etc. and have never had problems with this game and lag except for my friend's house.
I haven't changed laptops or even updated drivers between the time that it worked and when I had problems. I decided to update my wireless card drivers and it didn't fix anything. Finally we found a workaround to connect directly via ethernet wireless bridge instead of their wifi and I have no lag issues. You know, plugged in from the ethernet port to an outlet for power. Disconnected from the wifi I was having problems with.
I have two friends who have also come with their laptops and have had no issues with lag playing side-by-side with me, same server, everything. Their laptops are a lot shittier than mine too and they have no issues.
I know that using the ethernet port fixes the problem but I am trying to figure out how to fix the problem with my wireless. Any ideas anyone? Because they aren't too happy when I hog their ethernet bridge all day.
Thank you!
What OS are you using? I recall Vista having some issues with wi-fi scanning that resulted in insane dropouts every now and then with high throughput.
