I just upgraded to windows 7 from windows xp and to my surprise it's been relatively painless so far. However, i'm having a few small problems. First off, in browsers i have some graphical bugs specially when it comes to displaying text:

In general i feel like the quality of text is lower in W7 than xp, and i have no idea what's causing it.
Also, w7 seems to be forgetting some of settings/preferences in some programs after closing them like in Skype or FF.
In source games, tf2 in particular, my fps keeps flickering. Even when i'm staring at the wall or something my fps fluctuates...
Since I upgraded from xp to w7 i have no idea where anything is and i'm not used to the interface. So i appreciate any general w7 tips. Is there any settings tweaks that i need to alter for my computer (it's mainly used for gaming and school stuff)? When w7 and vista first came out, i remember people were all disabling/altering the settings of different components of the os...
Here are my specs:
Intel C2D E6400
2gb ram
9800gt
Windows 7 professional 64-bit
i don't see anything wrong with that text
General Vista/7 tip:
The search bar in your start menu is EXTREMELY useful.
There is nothing wrong other than you are not logged in.

Looks different to me.
XP uses something called Cleartype to fix the lettering from being like that, see if you can find anything on it.

Does this look normal to you?

Alright, it's only FireFox being gay. Chrome and opera are fine. Any ideas how to fix it? FF is my main browser. :crying:
Also, any ideas on other problems?

First image (before the one i'm quoting) shows that you've read every single 'active' thread in the certain forum or you've double clicked the file.
Image in this post: You've read the threads but no replys/the thread isn't active so therefor it isn't bold

OMFG! So you're telling me that you can't see the blurry and rainbow colored text underneath the 'read' threads?
I see it, not windows 7s fault though as that never happened to me, looks more like graphics or something to that degree.
OMFG! So you're telling me that you can't see the blurry and rainbow colored text underneath the 'read' threads?
Nope, all I can see is a lighter shade of blue text on all your pictures.

It's your cleartype settings that's causing it.
It's your cleartype settings that's causing it.
No, it's not. It's only happening in FF. Chrome and Opera render it perfectly crisp and clear. Also what about other problems like unstable fps and w7 not remembering settings.

The same was happening to me, I turned of cleartype, and it was fixed.

Did you use a program like MozBackup to backup your Firefox settings? If so, the transition to Win7 might have been less-than-perfect for Firefox. Try (backing up then) deleting your Firefox profile and starting it up.
Make sure your drivers are updated for the fps drops.
Maybe also try disabling file indexing if you don't use the file search feature often.

Forums are marked as 'read' hence the icon difference as well.
[editline]10:09PM[/editline]
As for the issue. It only happens under these circumstances (which is odd):
1. You use Windows 7.
2. ClearType is on.
3. You use Firefox.
4. You're at Facepunch.
Pretty odd huh?

Pretty much. It's fine with 'unread' stuff, it only happens to the text marked as 'read'.

I get it as well. Under those exact circumstances. :\

Glad i'm not the only one with this problem.
Any ideas on how to fix this peeps?
The font issue?
Well reapaninja posted the fix a few posts ago. And it's located in the Windows 7 Megathread (all 3 of them)

If you read my response to his post, you'll see that it didn't work (for text). It's only happening in FF.

Reboot.
Reboot.
 C'mon panda, you can do better than that. You're supposed to be the all knowing facepunch guru of windows.

It's worked for 100% of people having this problem. That's the solution. It's always worked. Change font smoothing to '2' and reboot.
Also I'm not the all knowing facepunch guru of Windows. Hell that font fix was found by WaLLy3K.
I have w7 on my laptop just installed fresh and my text is fine
I have w7 on my laptop just installed fresh and my text is fine
Do you use Firefox?
Try disabling the firefox's own antialising. It might be that the text gets smooths twice. Once by FF and once more by windows.
