I have had my LG FLATRON Wide 20" (L204WT) for 4 years now. When I feel the back of display, it feels rather 'hot' to touch. The monitor isn't covered up by anything at all, just sitting their on my desk.

I wouldn't say it's something to worry about, most LCDs get like this, unless it's actually hot enough to burn skin, or melt components.
AugustBurnsRed is right, pretty much any screen gets hot, only if you smell burning or it actually leaves burns (Not when it only feels like its burning you).
Try a sony tv (nx700 or nx800) you can get burns from leaning on that.
