I'm looking for a new GPU for around $200, the faster the better. Must have relatively low power demand, as my case only has room for 1 PSU. My current PSU is a 500w. I was looking at this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102825 Tell me what you think, and thanks for any help you can provide.
What brand is your psu?
Full specs?
Ultra. Model name is not on the product, therein I cannot supply that. [editline]08:21PM[/editline] 4 gb ddr2 ram, Win 7 RC, AMD Phenom 9600 Quad-Core Processor Clocked at 2.4 ghz, GeForce 9400 GT :[ (Piece O' Shit I got as a graduation gift from my cheap father) Oh and the Graphics card need to be PCI-E.
Take a picture of your PSU. It sounds like shiiiiit.
also what's the highest resolution your monitor goes up to no point getting a complete overkill GPU, wasting cash
A GTX 260 Core 216 sounds right around your alley.
also what's the highest resolution your monitor goes up to no point getting a complete overkill GPU, wasting cash
1600x1200; huge 21 inch CRT. I need a nwe gpu, the one I have is really shitty, can't even run Fallout 3 on full with all AA.
I have no clue what your PSU is, but I'd try a GTX 275. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133268
If that doesn't work, then it's time to upgrade your PSU
And I'd try to get an LCD screen, you'd get much better use out of the GPU. By the way, it may not be your GPU it may be your crappy CRT!

No, there is no disadvantage to owning a CRT.
1600x1200; huge 21 inch CRT. I need a nwe gpu, the one I have is really shitty, can't even run Fallout 3 on full with all AA.
AA is one of the most taxing things on a GPU, and becomes more unnecessary as the resolution heightens.
No, there is no disadvantage to owning a CRT.
Thought so.
Hey with the CRT on my downstairs PC we have a dual setup 1 LCD and 1 CRT. It is a 4870 and the CRT looks so crappy on it!
AA is one of the most taxing things on a GPU, and becomes more unnecessary as the resolution heightens.
Huh. I had no idea. At 1600x1200 do you think I really need it at all? [editline]08:51PM[/editline]
Hey with the CRT on my downstairs PC we have a dual setup 1 LCD and 1 CRT. If you've got a more recent Triniton-like CRT you'll actually have a pretty damn sharp picture. And going back to the OP owning a CRT, that has nothing to do with him not being able to max out FO3 with AA. It's not like he's going to suddenly gain the ability to max it out because he switched over to a nice LCD monitor. That is just silly.

Yes they're big and bulky and ugly compared to LCD monitors, but something like that actually has a very nice picture. (not my pic btw :v:)
It's best to use VGA cables with CRTs for best picture.

Thats what ours looks like but it is not the same brand. I just thought that having an LCD would help get a sharper quality picture compared to a CRT and it takes up far less room. What is your GPU anyway? Is it Onboard?
He has a 9400gt, which is never onboard. But he will probably need to upgrade his PSU, since ultras always explode when near there capacity.

Sorry, I didn't see it. Never actually heard of Ultra, maybe cause it isn't here in Australia? When did you actually get this computer Biotoxsin? [editline]12:43PM[/editline] I most probally do. [editline]12:45PM[/editline] This is sorta what happened to our last CRT monitor except it was an accident! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nT9FGkK9IeY
you accidently put fireworks in your pc?
I hate when that happens.
Not really it just caught on fire, it happened when there was a power surge and we didn't have a surge protecter on it and that sorta happened, lucky it was in the garage away from the house, we got insurance cover. But that happened except We didn't light it!
