• Warning for people shopping Amazon: they're trying to trick you into signing up for Prime

I just tried to buy something and I got taken to a page offering free two day shipping. Nothing on the page said anything about Amazon Prime or this being a purchase. I clicked "let's get started" and in one click it signed me up for a year of Amazon Prime and charged me $99 I can't find anything on the internet about this happening so it must be pretty new, but this is illegal as fuck and won't be the first time Amazon has done something like this. Edit: I'm starting to doubt myself and wondering if they did actually mention that it was signing up for Prime and I just wasn't paying close enough attention.
That happens pretty much every time you order something. There's usually a small bit of text somewhere that says "No, I don't want to save $____." that you can click to continue to a normal order. Not illegal. But annoying as fuck. Definitely should read as you go.
Yeah glad you mentioned this because if you decide to switch from the yearly prime ($99/yr) plan over to the monthly prime ($10/mo) plan and vice versa, it will immediately charge your card every time you switch options with no sort of Accept/Confirm button of any sort nor does it even display a page that acknowledges your subscription change, it's instant. I had to call up Amazon to cancel the charges, It ended up taking out $250+ from my bank account in less than fifteen minutes.
huh, why does prime cost so much over there? it's like 20€/y over here
This isn't anything new. Like Pascall said, it happens pretty much every time you order something on Amazon. You just need to make sure to read as you go like Pascall suggested, and you should be fine.
What pisses me off is when companies grey out or put their "cancel" option in fine print. Like they try to make it seem as if the option to decline something is not available.
Amazon has done that since the day it created Prime.
