• Need help limiting bandwidth

Ok so basically how it stands is that my room mate and all his friends come over and get on xbox live watch netflix and torrent all the time. I've told him several times and he still persists on doing it. The field where I have advantage is that he is not very technologically smart and only I have password to the router so my question comes as this. Since I myself and hooked up directly to the modem is there a way to limit or throttle the wireless settings?
Sledgehammers work. [editline]21st April 2011[/editline] No, but maybe you can add a security key?
Could you use some sort of IP cap on connected equipment?

If your router is supported by dd-wrt you can enable QoS and give yourself priority.
linksys has a setting in the router control panel for this. try looking in your router's control panel.

If he always goes over, QoS won't do jack shit. QoS only means that you can still get a good connection even if he's slaughtering the connection.
Who pays for it? If it's you, then tell him to get his own line/connection. If it's him, then tough shit, get your own line/connection. If you share it, ask him to pay a larger share as he's using more bandwidth.
