Hey, I want to learn how o play guitar, but I don't want to have to pay for lessons. If someone could direct me to a place or person who could help me that would be great.
EDIT: If it makes any difference I want to learn acoustic.

I don't know notes or anything.
school if you're going to school otherwise just pick up Guitar for Dummies it is a useful starter book
I don't know notes or anything.
You don't need to know notes, its tablature, which means search up a song you want to learn and then it will have tabs for it. A tab represents which fret and string to play with a number instead of just telling you the note. and if it's acoustic learn all the basic chords a,b,c,d,e,f, and g. and tablature is not that hard to interpret. just look around, you'll see and understand it.
the tabs will be in a line and look like this:
E------------------------- 1st string (thinnest string)
B------------------------- 2nd string
G------------------------- 3rd string
D------------------------- 4th string
A------------------------- 5th string
E------------------------- 6th string (thickest string)
I can even tab out the basic chords if you'd like.
Please do so, you are being very helpful.
here's the basic chords, if there isnt a number on a string, don't strum that string :P
E-------0--------------- here's an "a" chord, see how it begins with the "a" string.
B-------2---------------
G-------2---------------
D-------2---------------
A-------0---------------
E-----------------------
(bar second fret) here's "b" its pretty tough to get used to and it's a barre chord meaning you use your index finger and place it over that whole fret and then use the rest of your fingers to hold the other notes
(bar second fret)
E-------|---------------
B-------|------4--------
G-------|------4--------
D-------|------4--------
A-------|--------------
E-----------------------
E------0--------------- here's a C chord, easy enough.
B------1---------------
G------0---------------
D------2---------------
A------3---------------
E-----------------------
E------2--------------- D chord
B------3---------------
G------2---------------
D------0---------------
A---------------------
E-----------------------
E--------------------- E chord
B-------0-------------
G-------1-------------
D-------2-------------
A-------2-------------
E-------0-------------
Barre 1st fret
E-----|---------------- F Chord
B-----|---------------
G-----|----2-----------
D-----|----3----------
A-----|---------------
E-----|----------------
parenthesis mean that you don't "have" to play this note and it can be open, but if you want a fuller g sound hold down the "3"
E------(3)---------------
B------3---------------
G------0---------------
D------0---------------
A------2---------------
E------3----------------
Alright there you go, so go learn some songs or some tabs or whatever hope this helped.
It really depends on why you want to learn guitar.
Have some hearts Zach

Added. Thanks
If you have any relatives who play guitar, you should also ask them. My dad's been playing guitar for most of his life, and he's helped me become fairly good at playing.
It will be easier to play tabs if you learn chords (muscle memory and whatnot)
I'm in your boat Kawaii
I learn by myself.
Don't try it. Pay for lessons. I picked up a hell load of bad habits by trying to teach myself. If you must teach yourself, remember to alternate pick, finger for a fret, and practice with a metronome.
Guitar isn't that hard.
Anyone half-capable can easily learn without lessons. I am of course assuming that said person has the internet as a reference, but I think it's pretty obvious that Kawaii does.
What a coincidence, im too lazy to get guitar lessons, but have been teaching myself with the internet for about a year now.
I started off with youtube and learned how to play a song (in this case, Money Talks by AC/DC, easy as hell), then learned a ton of intros to songs, then learned a few full songs and now im working on my soloing and improv stuff. Try learning how to read tabs, they usually help a bit, and read them along with advice from youtube and mash it all together. Good luck!

Fixed some errors:
E-------0------------- E chord
B-------0-------------
G-------1-------------
D-------2-------------
A-------2-------------
E-------0-------------
Barre 1st fret
E-----|---------------- F Chord
B-----|---------------
G-----|----2-----------
D-----|----3----------
A-----|----3----------
E-----|----------------
E------3--------------- G Chord
B------3---------------
G------0---------------
D------0---------------
A------2---------------
E------3----------------
Ignore the whole parenthesis thing on the G-chord. If you want you don't have to fret the 3:rd on the B-string. Not fretting the 3:rd on the E-string will just risk a E-note being played. E has no place in a G-chord, so that would be bad. Besides, there's no reason not to play this fully open like all the other chords.

Look into a program called "Guitar Pro." It will show you the tabulators for a song and allows you to play along with them at the same time. It's extremely handy for learning songs quickly.
Hang about I'll write down the major scale shape for you man
E---------------------
B---------------------
G---------------------
D------------2-4-5-4-2-------------
A------2-3-5-----------5-3-2-------
E-3--5-----------------------5-3---
The 3rd fret on the E string is G, so the scale is G major.
If you move every note up to, so it starts on 5, it is in A.
You can move this scale shape around to play the major scale in any key.

My stepdad plays, he has been for about 25 years. He's really good, and prefer to learn from him than from a tutor, as he knows me better, knows what I'm into, and has similar tastes :slick:

I knew it was one of those strings, oh well I never play g without holding them both down anyways. but on the F I think it's the same thing with the extra A?

a good video about it.
...but on the F I think it's the same thing with the extra A?
No, if you do that you will get an A♯-note which has no place within an F Major-chord.
Just go to justinguitar.com or something.
