I'm getting a Visiontek 4870 (ordering tonight)
and I was wondering if I would see a significant boost in FPS from a 8800GTS WITH
a 5600 X2 AMD.
Would there be a significant bottleneck? Thanks!
Very significant bottleneck, but it wouldn't be a whole lot worse than from an 8800 GTS.
Is there any benchmarks so I could get an idea?
It wouldn't be that much to upgrade your CPU as well.
Budget of 180$. Plus, I would have to get a whole new mother board.

There's a huge bottleneck, what's your mobo?
If it's AM2/AM2+ compatible, then you can stick an AM3 Quad core on it without changing it, and still get a FPS boost without a new GPU which would be good.

And if you're playing mostly source games, then you'll be fine since most source games are less GPU intensive than other games such as GTAIV and Crysis.
A 3.0GHz Quad core Phenom II is around 170. And you could wait to buy a 5000 Series card in september with some saved money.
