Do I need a U3 capable USB drive if I want to boot from it?

Hey FP, I've been dicking about with OSes lately, and I was wondering if I needed a U3 capable USB drive if I wanted to boot from USB.

Or can it be done with any USB drive that has enough space for an OS?
