I am getting a gaming laptop to replace my Gaming computer that I move around alot. I have been looking at Asus' Gaming range of laptops and am wondering if the G51JX-A1 would be a good pick?
I can get one, new, for $1,600AUD. It has: Intel Core i7 720QM, 4GB DDR3 at 1066MHz, GTX260m 1GB, 640GB Hard drive, 15.6" Screen at 1920 x 1080 and Windows 7 Premium pre-installed.
Yes I know when I use it, the power plug will need to be in if I game but I think its pretty decent.
For $100 more I could get the 3D 1366 x 768 version, but that might be a waste. I guess if anyone has thoughts on it they could tell me, but I'm not worried about battery life as it will be in the wall the whole time besides on the 1 - 2 hours long drives, but I wont be gaming then, probably just a movie. If you could reccomend another good gaming laptop for under $1,600AUD and in Australia then that would be grand.
I am grateful for any input, but don't just say some crap like "Gaming laptops are a sin" etc. etc.
You could have a look at the MSI GX640/GX740, armed with Mobility HD5850/HD5870 GPUs respectively. I have the GX640, it's pretty damn good.

They look alright, But I can't find any GX640's in Australia and the GX740 has a 17" screen and in my personal opinion thats way too big.
I will be using it for games, movies, school, music and web browsing so I want to get a good performance, small laptop to move around on a daily basis.

I am sure they would be well suited to the average joe but I plan to sell my Gaming computer for a Gaming laptop. Thanks though.

Why? You'll get a better desktop gaming comp for the same money o__O
Unless, of course, portability is important, in which case I understand.

Yeah, portability is the reason I am really going to a laptop to be honest, I really love building a new rig, and turning it on for the first time. Gives you a sense of achievement knowing you can make something work by yourself.
You could look at Sony Vaio laptops, there is a series around armed with Mobility HD5650 graphics cards, and I read that they're pretty quiet.
Another option is the Asus N61, which has a Mobility HD5730 and an USB 3.0 port (if that is of any significance at all). That laptop has a 16" screen.
Main reason I went for my GX640 instead of the above is because I thought 1366x768 is too small and 1920x1080 was too big for 15.4". Plus, it was one of the few laptops with the HD5850 for a reasonable price.
I can't really check availability of these laptops in Australia but I hope these suggestion help.
