Yes I know what the iPhone does, I had the 3G two years ago. I would like to upgrade to one. I'm currently using a Motorola Droid X, but shit hit the fan and I'd like to get rid of it for an iPhone 4S. I'm not even a year into contract (My mom was stupid and bought the Droid X even though the X2 was out) So what's the best way to get an iPhone on Verizon without paying crap with a contract?
inb4 "you can't do that!" If you're going to post it, gtfo. I would like a real response.
You can't do it.
And this is a REAL response.
If you're not a year into the contract, how do you think that you can upgrade to an iPhone 4S?
If you had an iPhone you can because Apple contracts only a year to upgrade and you can sell your current iPhone and use that money to get the newer one.
But if you're using a Motorola Droid X with a 2 year contract or a year, you gotta wait it out.
No other way.

Well, I was thinking more along the lines of "Phone's bricked get Verizon to give me a new one" because I understand that. I was hoping that the system could be broken.
For example: Brick the phone, what would Verizon do?

Depends on how you brick it, you'll probably just void the warranty and you'll be screwed as they won't help you out if you're unlucky.

Hmm... then better read the terms and conditions. Assuming if I sudo rm/rf the Droid it might slide by VZW.
My Mac likes to sudo rm /rf others. And so do I.

Only real way to brick an Android device properly is to mess up flashing a bootloader.
So deleting root won't work? Okay. Still how would VZW reinstall Android? And plus I could always restore an image of the drive. Do you think that Verizon techies would be able to reinstall Android? And I have no clue how to flash the bootloader on it.

You can't. You'd have to flash a custom bootloader which can't be done on a motorola phone. If you could you would then mess up during the flash by say...pulling the cord out halfway through the flash. It won't matter though because they could just reflash the bootloader and everything would be fine. Tech support will always try reflashing a stock image. The only way to get them to give you a different phone is to break yours in a way covered by the warranty.

Now to find out what warranty I might have by default.

It will be quite obvious if you tries to brick the bootloader, as you will be greeted with a screen saying something about bootloader error. Since none of the OTA update never touches the bootloader in such way, there's no doubt that you tampered with the phone OS aka voiding your warranty.

Search up the Atrix for instance.

Besides, if your mom bought you the wrong phone, can't you just return it and get another one?

Droid X's bootloader is encrypted.

OK the Atrix is an exception, but most moto phones including his can't have the bootloader flashed.

Even with a warranty, they'll just replace the same phone, they won't give you an iPhone 4S because your Droid isn't working.
There's no real loop for this. Even if your phone broke, you'll have to pay full for the iPhone 4S and get a new contract on that phone seeing as how the contract on your phone had to be ended because the phone is no longer functioning.
So you have to wait out the contract, or buy an iPhone 4S for full from someone else or something.
